RWA3006 - Randy, I've spent my life telling people they needed to stop talking shit all the time. I have to say, you are definitely the first person I have openly encouraged to talk more shit! As Dave said...excellent report! I wonder to what degree (pun intended) the temperature of the earth was affected by the amount of methane gas produced by dinosaurs. I imagine the earth being COVERED in dinosaurs. Today, there are studies out showing the methane produced by the sheer number of cattle which are constantly farting...and is said to contribute to the warming of the planet. I imagine with a diet such as the dinosaurs had, I would think the same type of methane gas was being produced, but at an even far(t) greater capacity. I've only had one cup of coffee this morning...so I may not be firing on all cylinders...

RWA3006 I was going through the box of poop you sent me recently. Was looking for a nice piece to give a friend who home schools. I found one that has some dendrites in it. Kept that one. Your posting a piece of coprolite with dendrites and the explanation was perfect timing.

How ODD! To be totally separated like that. An "untoothed" and undigested portion of palm wood?

Here we have a specimen with classic beetle signs. This guy not only has fossilized bug poo inside, it also has tunnel portals on the outside. It's interesting that fossilized bug poo always seems to self manifest in stark contrast to the host coprolite.

TURD TUESDAY This guy didn't seem to deform much when it landed upon the ground. I'm thinking the lower digestive tract of it's source must have been efficient at reclaiming water content from the turd.

Was the Beetle activity on the bottom of the pile?

Was the Beetle activity on the bottom of the pile? Yes, exactly. The blob hadn't deformed much but there is a noticeably smoother and flatter area that seems obvious to me that this is where it contacted the ground. The prominent darker streaks are immediately above that part. This part of the surface is shown in the first photo.

Here's one that's peppered with little red jasper gastroliths about the size of match heads. They are visible where it's cut in half and also on the exterior which must have been softer because it's been eroded away leaving agate veins sticking out.
