Couple of petrified turtles. The petrified turtles I found by Vernal Utah (the Devils Playground) were 50 million years old.

This outer skin is often present on these guys. After a long time I've tentatively concluded it's the outer surface of the algea stuck on casts of stumps and logs. Anyone know for sure? I know for sure that - - I don't know!

Well, that was a truly enjoyable 10 minutes if pictures.
Thanks for taking the time to post them.
For me, the short horned lizard is the show stopper. Well, that and the petrified wood, and the jackrabbits, and the tortured chert and the ice cream.....................

Another thread reminded me ... near the pioneer grave my wife found this fossilized tooth. It was among alluvial gravels and worn. I assumed it was from an extinct species of horse. rockpickerforever Jean, what do you think?

I don't think I personally have any of them (horse teeth), but have seen many photos of them while doing research online and in books.
