Three Blue Mountains and five Blue Dreams. The Blue Dream slab was from Altamount on Etsy. I was looking for a slab with the pattern shown in the last two preforms. One inconsequential fracture on the trim saw with the Blue Dream

I especially like the top left and the one on the right of the quarter.

I have to buy my lapidary material on the web from pictures. I spend a lot of time looking for distinctive material. I look at hundreds of slabs for my favorite materials and go no,no,no......no. I then start looking for other material. I've been buying Mescalero and Blue Dream from Altamont on Etsy. Here's a 4x3x.25 slab that I paid $12 plus tax that will be delivered tomorrow.

I'm anxious to see what you choose to do with it.

I'm anxious to see what you choose to do with it. The usual; mark the fractures since there will be some and then start laying templates over the slab and see what I like. Some slabs that I am going to buy I identify a pattern that I think will make a nice cab. On a slab like this one there will be a lot of patterns and I decide which ones to use.

It often takes me a long time to decide where to mark and cut with complex, interesting cabs like yours. It can be tough to give up on one or more overlapping alternatives.

I had a gem Owyhee slab I thought about for years; what to include, what to leave out. It was always going to produce only one cab. My rule was when in doubt put it down. I finally got a pattern that I decided was best and as soon as it touched the saw it fractured. I had looked at the slab a lot and there was no area of concern.

I suspect all the staring at it was the culprit. Slab could not handle the stress!!

My son brought the Blue Dream up from the mailbox and I had the trim saw set up. I wasn't particularly inspired. No fractures to deal with. Three pears and a freeform with what was remaining using the other side. Sides are very dissimilar and I might end up flipping one of them.
