Damn, I missed it. Is that a US holiday? I'd be surprised. I do love some Dr Who!

I think it’s one of those unofficial, but world-wide holidays

National Wisconsin Day National Wisconsin Day on February 15 celebrates the state of Wisconsin, its history, and its hard-working people. Wisconsin was the 30th state to be accepted into the union of the U.S. With cheeses, beers, copper, and so much more, Wisconsin is a state that keeps on giving and we’re here to celebrate it.
DID YOU KNOW THIS?
5 LESSER KNOWN FACTS ABOUT WISCONSIN It’s not the badger you think Nope, not the animal — the Badger State refers to lead miners who used to travel and dig tunnels to stay warm and sleep.
It’s America’s Dairyland Wisconsin is the number one producer of cheese in the United States.
The birthplace of Harley Davidson William Harley and brothers Walter and Arthur Davidson built the first motorcycle in Wisconsin.
It can get spooky As per Wisconsinites, there are more ghosts per square mile here than in any other state.
The first-ever ice cream sundae George Hallauer asked a Twin Rivers soda shop for a dish of ice cream and sauces on a random Sunday, and the rest is history.
Just a little about the place I have called home most of my life.

International Firefighters Day. A time to thank those who put their lives into the fire to help others. My Brother in Law is Fire Chief for a small, volunteer fire department. My daughter is Admin Assistant for a large, Metro fire department. Thankfull I have seen firefighters in action on my property once. Long ago a tenant at the rental unit my fiance and I shared had left stuff burning in a barrel. There was a burning ban on at the time. High winds and dry lands. Someone drove past and saw a wildfire on the property. They called 911 and us. The fire came very close to a propane tank next to the garage. It burned about an acre of land. No buildings were damaged. My fiance and I came there ASAP after the pholne call. We stayed there the 4 hours it took to eliminate the fire. We were fined for burning when there was a ban. Passed the fine onto the tenant, who paid it. Firefighters do so much for so many. Whether they are paid or on a volunteer fire department. I have several friends who are volunteer firefighters. They are attached to their communication devices 24 hours/day. So many firefighters loose their life or become disabled resulting from what they do. If you know someone who is a firefighter, please wish them well today. www.firefightersday.org/about-iffd/?fbclid=IwAR2-pNDSahFSmQ5vD_iJXYv4WBSLVNx9642n3s1XclGl7mCX5lGO7iZrxaE

Today, 7/25/22 is National Carousel Day (or National Merry-Go-Round Day). The holiday was created by the National Carousel Association (N.C.A.) as a way to mark the registration of the first patent for a carousel design in 1871 by William Schneider. There has been a carousel in Balboa Park for a long time, it has been there since the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. This one isn't it. This beautiful, antique Carousel dating to the 1920s was in the Carousel House in Santa Barbara. In 1998, the carousel was removed, and the building renovated. The space has reopened without the carousel, but serves as a popular event and wedding venue with an industrial greenhouse aesthetic. Progress (?). Wonder where the horses went to? Probably split up and sold off to artists, antique stores, etc. Who wouldn't want one of these intricately carved and painted steeds in their home?

HISTORY OF THUMB APPRECIATION DAY Thumb Appreciation Day is observed annually on February 18 to appreciate the worth of our thumb. A body part so useful that it would have been near impossible to grasp things more easily, pick small objects up, eat with one hand, and do so many other things without it. The holiday is meant to be the day to notice our thumb and give it the love and attention it deserves for being so vital to the functioning of our hands and life. It is meant to encourage everyone to spread love and show appreciation for their thumbs that medical professionals agree is one of the parts of our body that distinguishes us from other animals.
