Finially managed to get back into the woods to my Godzilla septarian nodule to get some pics for you all. Had to wait until chigger season was over. The little buggers shake me down for my lunch money all summer. Lol 😆 You can get an idea of how big it must have been originally. A close up of one of the pieces. I'm still not sure how deep the pieces go but they stretch a good 20ft into the woods.

Why do you say it's a septarian. Can't tell from the pic

It is a broken very large septarian nodule. Best as I can figure is that it was excavated when my foundation was dug out. The pictures are showing the broken chunks laying in the forest. Most of the chunks weigh 5 to 30 lbs. It's made up of hardened clay, dogtooth calcite and dogtooth aragonite. The outsides of the stones show the standard turtle looking clay. The rootbeer colored crystals in the pictures are aragonite. I have several nice specimens in my yard from it. I'll get some pictures uploaded of the cleaned up stones. You'll be able to see the normal septarian patterns. I was super happy when I found it last winter.

I was in the Rock Shed a couple weeks ago and thought of you and this thread! They had some pieces in the shop...not exactly as rough looking as your cache! LOL If you sell some of this, you can make some of your lunch money back - just a thought...

Sweet! Thanks Jason I envy you living near the Rock Shed and being able to visit it. It. Looks like a cool place. As promised, here are the 1st couple of specimens. A tiny crystal piece and a big 9 pounder. The big boy.

Before I got into hounding (and now tumbling) I used to drive by their shop every couple weeks while I was driving for work. If I had been into rocks back then, I'd have wasted many a lunch hour at their place! LOL
What's your plans for the behemoth 9-pounder? That baby's awesome!

I'm not exactly sure what to do with the big chunk. It's currently sitting on the edge of my fireplace entertaining me I always thought this one and a couple of the other chunks I have would look good as a cube or a sphere but I'm not brave enough to try it. Some of the other pieces are really interesting and filled with vugs. I'm looking forward to seeing what else is hiding in the forest this year. All of the pieces I've shown are actually broken chunks of the inside of the nodule. I have a big 25 pounder that is mostly the grey chalk with the turtle shell pattern on it. It has a cool small calcite pattern on the front that I thought made it a good landscape rock. Unfortunately I came out one morning to find a portion of the crystal pattern scraped off. That varmint bunny that lives in my yard decided to sharpen his teeth on it. Oh the horror! Lol My friend the Varmit.

Cute pic...of a nasty little varmint! I've seen pics of cubes - I believe of this material and they are off the charts amazing looking. Remember: Fortune favors the brave!!!

Thanks for the pics Jason! Those sculptures are gorgeous! I'll have to give it a try with one of the smaller chunks I have. I wonder if I can get a polish like that with my diamond sanding pads. I'd best start with something simple like a cube.
Luckily it's all soft stone so I should be fine with my tiny tile saw for shaping. I cut up some calcite crystals last weekend with the saw and it was easy. It atcually made a good rock for dressing the blade. Calcite crystals are super common here luckily.
