Since the Moab, UT show I do every Oct has been cancelled, I'll be making a trip to that area for hounding the first weekend in Oct. I expect to spend some time between the San Rafael Swell & Hwy 24 for grape agate. I may go to Floy Rd east of Green River & look for Pigeon Blood agate.
I know there's petrified wood & other goodies close to Hanksville. I'd love to hear what can be found there and some specific directions. TIA

Lynn, I go to Hanksville a few times a year and you need to visit Rockin Riddle Rock shop on the West end of town, on the North side of the road. Visit with owner, Cathy Rosenbaum and she'll hook you up with plenty of places to go. The shop ph. # is 801-603-6448

All that pet wood was so heavy it tipped the last photo on its side.

Looking forward to meeting her, I never got to the shop when Ernie Shirley ran it. I missed out on his piles of Dino bone. Lynn

How come rock shops are always like a TARDIS? Bigger on the inside?

How come rock shops are always like a TARDIS? Bigger on the inside? Those photos were taken a couple years ago just after Cathy opened the place up. Most of the inventory that Mr. Shirley had was long gone and Cathy had to scratch up enough inventory to get started and now days she has quite a bit more to offer so the interior appears a bit fuller or smaller. It sure is a fun place to visit.

It sure is a fun place to visit. It was in no way a dig at the level of inventory. Quite the opposite. I’ve just often found that rock shops Often don’t look very large from the parking lot. Then, when you walk in, it’s “holy moly, this place is huge, and so many rocks time.” 😍

Those roads near Hanksville and Tonapah are some of my favorite places.
