Nice score! That was really cool of him. I know you'll do these justice and I'm anxious to see what you're going to do with them!

I see some really nice patterns in those slabs. Lucky you! You're gonna be having some fun this weekend.

Ya know, rocks are funny. Not haha funny, but "aaaaaarrrghh I can't believe that just broke" funny. I drew out some nice cabs and proceeded to cut them this weekend. The one that I thought would be the nicest ended up fracturing and I could only get 2 little cabs out of it. Then the 2 cabs pictured here were from the thinnest, most fragile slabs- or so I thought. Obviously they're just dremeled, they still need a bit of work and polishing. Anyway, thanks for looking- and letting me rant. 😐

This might be the last cab I get from these slabs. It's not much of a cab but it's too pretty not to use for something. And a question- how thin is too thin? I prefer a little meat on the bones when it comes to cabs... Anyway, there's a dip in the middle and I'm not sure I want to keep grinding. I don't think I'll lose any pattern, but like I said it's already pretty thin. Thoughts?

BEAUTIFUL! I don't think it's too thin. Hard stones, like agate, are a little more forgiving on the thickness.

Thank you, ma'am! And the dip?
There's already not very much of a dome and I know the top should be uniform...

That's a hard call for not having it in the hand. I think you can go a little thinner based on the picture. But, I could be wrong. Looks like you need to make a hard judgement call.

Everything happens for a reason...While I'm a true believer in that phrase at all times, there's also certain times I hate that phrase! I think they're still going to turn out gorgeous, but not exactly how you thought they'd turn out. Words to live by Gorgeous stone, was nice to see from slab to cab

That last cab is a beauty. I'm with Tela -- you can go a bit thinner on it.

Re" The "dip." I see no reason that all cabs must have uniform crowns. I think some very beautifully cut stones have curving, undulating crowns that can add to their interest and use in creative jewelry. I always hesitate to destroy what took nature millions of years to create just to conform to an arbitrary fashion standard. Of course mileage will vary depending on individual tastes.
