Well it is winter time for me and I headed South like I do every year. I have been to Wyoming, Utah, Lake Mead, and now in Arizona. Burro Creek was My first stop. I have been here for a few days now and will probably stay 3 or 4 weeks. One of my first trips into Burro was to stop and find some Garnets. I have never hunted them before but I thought I would give it a try. My research put me on a spot I wanted to try fairly close by to where I am camped. Of corse I new nothing about garnets or how to actually find them but what the heck, it was a nice day for an atv trip. The first 4 miles was great but then I had to turn onto a trail to get me back there. Man......the next 2 or 3 miles was really rough going but I finally made it. Now what do I do the trail ended at the base of the cliff. I started walking up to see what I could find. Purplish big and small rocks were skater all over the place. At first I though they had fell off the cliff and busted up. After looking at a few I could see pencil size holes that had been drilled in them and some kind of charge was use to blow them apart. I thought then I must be in the right place and started looking more closely at all those purplish boulders. Then I finally saw one embedded in the rock but how the heck do you get them out of there without ruining them. Well I don't no. Most I ruined trying to beat them out with my rock hammer until I figured out that was a lost cause. Then and idea came to me. If they were blowing the rocks up maybe I could find some laying on the ground. Sure enough after sifting though the dirt below the boulder I finally found a few.
I am not much of a writer but I wanted to share my experience with everyone. Here a few more pic of the area and some other Burro Creek goodies.
This is the boulder where I found them.
