miket - I didn't even need to look at the username, as soon as I saw Fairburn Road sign, I knew My current setup; kinda messy right now. For some reason my embedded pictures don't work, so had to link. [/a]

For some reason my embedded pictures don't work, so had to link. Arbors & work table.Rocks and chaos. That doesn't look too bad- and what's wrong with a little chaos?
Oh, and that sign was a gift from one of my kids for Father's Day...if I remember right it was from a Fairburn Road in Australia.

Well, you see the clean part... Most of it will get cleaned up later on today anyways. Wishful thinking?

Right now all our stuff is in our trailer, truck and a storage in Washington state. We get to make a shop all over again, hopefully we learned something in the last one.

My garage workshop has never really blossomed into the workspace I envisioned when we moved into this house in Jan 2019. Still kind of pathetic if you ask me That being said my garage is still currently piled up with crap from our ongoing flooring project. Once I get that straightened up a bit I'll post a picture. Mel feel free to copy and paste these BBcode links to get your photos to display inline if you want. Or not, the links work fine too [img src="https://i.imgur.com/Ck3cjTQ.jpeg" alt="https://i.imgur.com/Ck3cjTQ.jpeg"]

Thank you Tommy! Not sure why it wouldn't work when I tried. Too impatient I guess!

Mel from Yuma & Spokane I don't have pictures but I can tell you I started out 40+ years ago more like @drummond Island Rocks though not quite as well labeled. But now I am more like @azrockgeek. At one point we purchased a collection and my garage was filled and we had pile of rocks outside 4ft high and 20 feet in diameter with no buckets just rock. I don't really know if I have too much stuff or I live in too small a house.

Taylor says its humble. If its not humble, you are in the game for the wrong reason. Mel says its messy. If it isn't messy, you are not using it. AzRockGeek is moving material outside. If you don't have stuff outside, you are not really in the swing of the game. Stephan is working outside. I guess we know he lives in the SW and many are envious of that capability. Drummond Island is big league organized. And we know that a desire to be organized is important to the process. StarDiamond has a tolerance for clutter on the floor as a way of confining dust and oil. And we do know he generates dust. The South Dakota/Nebraska guys show an efficiency in the shop indicating an emphasis of going out to get those rocks and concentrating on a few "good" ones instead of production. Rockoonz, HankRocks, Mohs, and Tommy are not ready to show us their stuff because they are too busy working life's other activities at the same time maintaining an active lapidary. Diversity is the name of the game. Its therapy for some of us, but good medicine for us all.

Am I the only person who works outdoors? The only issue for me is a few really cold days and then I either take the day off or start later. Current temperature is 65. During the 100+ days, I start earlier and quit earlier. No mess to clean up.

My rocks are everywhere, but my saw is on a table on the open patio (covered with junk), my flat lap is used on a table on the patio (after I clean enough rocks off the table to make room for it). My rotary tumblers are on a table in an area next to the patio, which is covered with a large tarp (stuff that doesn't fit in the garage or on the patio). All work done with these machines is outside. But, hey, this is SoCal, not having to worry about snow, lol. No, absolutely not, I do not hoard rocks!
Only my little vibe tumbler (don't even remember the name of it, I'm so bad) gets preferential treatment, it gets to run inside the garage. (Quietness has its benefits!)

Does opening the big garage door count as being outside? Hey the garage is almost like being outside, heated in the Summer and cooled in the Winter!!!

I open that big garage door next to the cab machine and it feels like outside. On the afternoons when its above 80 degrees and I'm standing in the sun it feels like outside! And then there are the cold windy days in January! I'm so glad winter is short! We are considering moving the saws outside to lessen the "game trail" and oil mist issues.

One day I'll move to the coast....
