Came from home from work Tuesday night. Noticed that light was off on electric cord running to horse tank heater.
Checked it the next morning. Tank heater was not working.
Stopped by home improvement store before work Wednesday to get a new cord.
Sierra had also broke through door to wood shed. More repairs to make.
Purchased two 25’ cords that have lights in the ends. Nails, screws and some other needed items.
Thursday (Thanksgiving).
I secured nails on light pole, side of garage, over the garage door openings, on lower bird cage area next to garage and on fence posts/boards.
This was a very painful experience, as I cannot reach over my head without pain. Using a ladder was not an option.
Ran one extension cord from the yard light pole and over the nails. Plugged the other cord into it. I chose to use two cords so the lit ends would be easy to see. Ran that one over additional nails to the tank heater. Plugged the heater in. Secured nails above the cord to prevent it from falling down.
When plugging the cord into electric cord expander, noticed that the electric cord running from house was smoking. Unplugged that from outside electric outlet. Then from expander. The expander was melted in one place.
Thankfully, I had another expander.
Did not have a spare extension cord.
My only choice was to remove the old extension cord that ran along garage. It had been secured with nailed in clips. It was now partially under the new cord. Used a hammer to remove the clips.
Was able to get the old cord down.
Plugged it in outside outlet. Ran the old cord to light pole. Plugged in outlet expander. So far, so good. Plugged in cord running to tank heater. The end lit up. Success. Then plugged in cord running to heated water dish.
Everything worked.
Apparently it was not the initial electric cord I had replaced, but the expander that had failed.
On to door repairs.
I was unable to open the door. Had planned on using some 1 x 4’s to secure the panels that fell out to inside of door.
Ended up putting the 1 x 4’s on the outside of door.
Sierra kept wanting to help me. She removed a box of screws from my jacket pocket. Screws all over the dirt covered ground. Was able to find all of them. She removed them again.
Finally got the door somewhat repaired. At least enough to prevent Sierra from getting through it.
Checked the tank heater and it was working.
I was very sore and tired.
Came inside to rest for a while before tackling my other projects for the day. By now it was almost 1:00 PM.
Hooked up muscle stimulator to back. Laid down on couch and started watching TV. Fell asleep.
Woke up at about 5:00 PM! By now it was too dark to do almost everything else planned. Was able to do a few things indoors.
At lease I got the most important outside stuff done.
I did clean up the cords by light pole.
How was your Thanksgiving?
Area with electric cords and broken wood shed door.
View of where electric cord was attached.
Other side of garage.
From garage to horse tank.
The mess of cords.
Work I did on stringing new cord to horse tank.
Woodshed temp door repair.
