While I recuperate from my back and thumb fracture, my rocks are the main source of entertainment. I will try not to bore you too much, you all have been so kind with your comments. this rock had a white skin all around it, but when broken, this is what was on the inside.. It looks like pictures I see of jasper. Is it? If not, do you know what it is? Chert?

I'm not the one to go to for a "confirmed" ID...but at first glance, I thought it looked like Wonderstone Jasper (I'm pretty sure it's not)...which I think is from Utah, not Texas...

I try to scratch it with a nail, but it only leaves a mark, not a scratch

It is not crumbly at all. The white outside is very smooth. It may look chalky, but it's not. It's not very heavy, if that helps. Im posting the other half

Much better. Not that I can help. I thought it was a NV jasper, but being from TX, I really don't know. However, with the new information, I'm sure someone will have a better idea.

To me it looks a bit more like Chert, or maybe just Quartzite. It looks a bit grainy for Jasper.

Search mindat.org for 'wonderstone' Mineral/rock/commodity names containing 'wonderstone' No exact matches or similar sounding names were found, the following entries may be appropriate. SEE!!! I'm just destined to find that 0.1% chance at being wrong! LOL Thanks for the reminder...I do have that one bookmarked...but forget about it! Oops!

Oops again! I looked further down that page and found a link for this: Wonderstone is a rhyolite that has Liesegang bands. Jason - still not trying to be an idiot...but trying is the operative word right there!
