A light box is a handy tool, especially when your subject is highly reflective. I made my first one out of some PVC and a white sheet. I did end up buying one of those pop-up versions after I got tired of putting together the PVC frame every time I wanted to take photos. I took another photo this afternoon in fading daylight using the focus stacking option on the TG-5. I didn't have my tripod handy, so I just set the camera on the windowsill. The first picture is a 100% crop and the second is the full image. The focus stacking works pretty well to get more of the image in focus when working with such a shallow depth of field. For this one, I set the camera a bit farther away than the earlier image.

Focus stacking in macro mode is one of the reasons I bought the TG6. It's something I can really relate to because of insects I shoot close up. Your pic looks great!

Brian, the TG6 just arrived, a factory refurbed one that I got for about $350 shipping incl. I'll post some pics of them side by side in a few mins. That fancy Canon is way smaller but as I've claimed is too small. I love the way that Oly feels in the hand. I had forgotten the lens work is all done inside the housing. The Canon lens protrudes after being turned on just like the Lumix line I'm used to. That the Oly doesn't and the lens movement is all inside is going to take some getting used to. To think that it can take tele that way and keep things right seems hard to believe given the tolerances that would be required. You can see how the display on back is probably the same size in terms of what gets displayed, but the glass display screen on the Canon is quite a bit larger than that. So much so, that that plus the small size leaves hardly anything to hold onto and that is the problem! I can't wait to test this Oly out.
My daughter who is a wildlife major in college needed a nice camera for her birthday later this month, knows she is going to get the Canon, and that's solves my problem of needing to sell it and her nice birthday gift.

Congrats on the arrival of the TG-6! I hope you like it as much as I’ve enjoyed my Oly!
The internal focus is a nice feature. One less way for dust and water to get inside.
If you go the light ring route, I’d recommend reading up on the reviews of each one. They operate in different ways and each one has its pluses and minuses.

Just today I needed to return an expensive wedding ring I got for Jenny which has some tooling marks around the prongs due to sloppy workmanship. Using tripod and 2 sec timer, I tried for 1/2 hr to get shots of them with the Canon in macro mode. I gave up. W/o even reading Oly instructions, I got right into macro and next micro mode and got totally fine closeups. They were so good, I actually saw some problem I had not seen with a 10x handheld triplet!
