The jade boulder, weighing 2,850 pounds, was stolen from the Cariboo Jade and Gift Shoppe in Cache Creek, BC Canada on Saturday (12-19-20) night. It appears someone rented an excavator to remove it. Security camera's photographed the truck, trailer and excavator. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/jade-stolen-cache-creek-1.5849498There is a posting and comments about this on the RTH FB page.

I presume their idea would be to piece it in order to sell it...akin to a vehicle chop shop. What else would you do with something that size without someone in the world knowing the original source...?

According to the article and owner, the piece is not lapidary quality. So, if anyone tries to break and sell it they would need to misrepresent it.

I can't help but think that drugs or alcohol, or maybe just general stupidity is involved. Can't see how they won't quickly be caught.

Sadly if thieves/crooks put as much effort into working verses not working they would probably be successful individuals.

You really have to wonder about some people. No morals, no brains (someone is going to have seen something), and no shame are a dangerous combination.

Tough call. “Stupidity is replicating itself at an astonishing rate. It breeds easily and is self-financing.” - Frank Zappa

According to the article, "The only way to relieve yourself of this is to give it back," she said. I know as I get older it is sometimes harder to relieve myself. I never thought of giving away Jade as the solution for that. They could end up with blocks of Jade from all over the world donated by men with aging prostates.
