I am wondering if anyone has used this tool for pre-shaping / grinding rocks for tumbling. I have had good luck with Dremel brand tools, and it costs half of a Foredom. I am a casual rock tumbler. It might get 15-20 minutes a week of use. Thanks in advance for any help!

I use a dremel to cab, I usually get an hour or so a night of use with mine. It's not a flex shaft, however...

holajonathan If you're handy, a flat lap is simple to build and will get you farther than a dremel. Check out the home made equipment section if that's an option for you... Otherwise... I have one of these and love it. They have great reviews and an even better price. 1/4 the price of the dremel you are inquiring about - giving you more $ to spend on rocks 😉 www.harborfreight.com/flexible-shaft-grinder-and-carver-40432.html

There is a slower way to make a cab than a Dremel; sandpaper.

Halojonthan, I use a flex shaft with success for a few stones when polishing/buffing but find it is a really good tool for other jobs around the home. We recently helped a neighbor remove a corroded/leaking toilet tank bolt by grinding away the flange using a diamond bit. The flex shaft for the Dremel is much cheaper and will let you know if you like holding the hand piece when working.
