I see swirly lines on anything and my first reaction is "Mmmm...prairie agate!" LOL The whole "rock bug" period has bitten me bad. I see a beautifully delicious Caramel Swirl Cake and my first reaction is that I'm seeing an amazing piece of Picture Jasper! LOL

I'm such a knucklehead! I forgot to mention what was probably the biggest rock related gift I got this year! I got this from my sister. I've searched a couple times online for reviews, but didn't see any real opinionated reviews. So, I have no idea if this is comparable to a Lortone, or a National Geographic... I did read somewhere that it "preferred" room temperature operation as opposed to fluctuating outside temps. So, I haven't set it up to use it just yet as I need to get a closet downstairs cleaned out first...

Santa sent me some gas money so I could go hound some gifts. A glass lid from the mud, that I found in the Bay. "Boyd's Genuine Porcelain Lined Cap"

I got socks too! What's so funny is when I was a kid I got socks occasionally and was so disappointed but now days I'm genuinely thrilled to get them! Am I getting old?
Santa (wife) also bought some tough new 10 ply truck tires so I'm not plagued so much with flats when hounding out in the boondocks. I feel tremendously blessed and so fun to see others likewise.
Gotta say that all this pales in comparison to the fact that I was able to share a modest box of rocks with a couple local disadvantaged fellow rock hounds and what a heart warming experience for me. I feel humble at the purity of their souls.

I have several of these, plus a few jar rings. They are so cool. I love the blueish tint on the edges of these milk glass lids. Over 45 years ago I found some broken ones in an old dump. Did a quick tumble and made them into pendants.

Did a quick tumble and made them into pendants. It was cool to find. It was barely showing and I thought it was just another piece of broken glass until I pulled it out of the mud. I didn't know what it was at first, but then realized it was the size of a small mouth mason jar. I found it along some 100 year old ruins of an old ferry crossing where I like to go and pick agates. Who needs a cabbing machine for naturally shaped gems.

I got a 7" wet saw. Cut my first rock today! Did I miss the pictures!?! I'm guessing you're loving that!!! Well...you know you have plenty of "support" here on the forum...also known as "encouragers"...but more likely the most apropos description would be "enablers"! LOL

Husband’s family moved into a house by a creek near Shelton, Washington, in about 1939. Former tenants dumped their garbage over the edge. Years later (1970s, 1980s), we dug through a lot; found the white porcelain lids as well as transparent lids, zinc lids, and the jars, including the pretty turquoise jars. Old dumps are a free museum! I used the colored jars for sugar and flour canisters. Ground coffee didn’t look so good. House (unfinished), a barn, plus 5 acres cost $300. He later bought the adjacent 5 acres for $3000. Prices went up after the war started.

chandler - Great looking rock! I suppose there's a "right way" and "wrong way" to cut the rock depending on what you want to do with it. Paying attention to the "grain" direction will yield different results. Petrified wood is a good example of this. Trying to make a cut in order to capture an interior fortification would definitely matter as to how you cut the rock. I don't think there's a "one size fits all" direction for something like that...I believe this comes down to experience...

Husband never thinks about what he would like for Christmas. However, one year he announced he thought of something he could really use. Finally ! Socks and underwear😅 With four teenagers, he got a lot! The little pocket knife is always a given. He always has it in his pocket unless the airlines checkin took it away. Yours are spectacular; his not so much.

In other words, I use them, they don't collect dust unless I'm in between rotations. About every month or so, I'll switch to a different everyday carry, quite a few have a specific purpose.....hunting, camping, carving, ect. The day after Christmas, I took a pic of the "working" collection I swap from, as it grows by at least one every Christmas.....lol I'll post a few of those pic's in another thread later.
I always appreciate new socks and boxer briefs..........since I'm to lazy to buy my own and the wife won't let me wear them out.........lol

My family gave me a beautiful blue cabbing machine with DP wheels. I just have to make a mobile bench, cut some pvc spacers, and get plastic tubing. I am so excited to try it out. I no longer have to drive 30 min to go to the local club to cab.

Nice gift, wonderful family!
And so starts the addiction...
Thanks for sharing the pics, next we want to see what you do with those gifts! (But not right away, take your time to get everything just right.)

Will definitely share pics of what I cut, but it may be a while before I can set things up. I also have to find some agate to break in the soft wheels.
