I know with a vaccine there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's call it hope. This second wave we are in is not due to government failure to act but due to citizens (world wide) deciding they have cabin fever and won't control themselves. They have to party like it is 1999 and spread to everyone around them. Ignoring the consequences. I have not been fearful but I have been careful. 2021 is going to be more of the same as 2020. The logistics of vaccinating 330 million people is complex with each state doing something different. But the real problem is that people need to wait between shots and keep wearing masks and SD and they will need to continue M&SD until some weeks after the second shot. Then there is still a 5-10% chance they can still get it and spread it to others, so to protect others M&SD probably for the whole 2021 year. This is where the Biblical concept of "Love your neighbor as yourself" applies (Churches have not acted like they understand that either).
Sorry for the rant.

Good one!!!! I told my husband this morning and he got a big laugh, too. Thanks for the smile first thing in the morning on this first day of the year. Hope it's better for everyone.

Happy New Year everyone!
Although 2020 had it's trials and tribulations, it was mostly positive for me.
My oldest daughter got married.
My youngest daughter got engaged.
I found love when I wasn't sure it existed anymore.
Had some great adventures. Rock hounding is social distancing at it's finest!
I only had a few weeks of lay off from work.
I wish you all the very best in 2021!

To say 2020 has been a long strange trip is an understatement.
I personally have gained people in my life, and people have exited my life.
I gained a home and found a partner that I've dreamed about for years and can't imangine ever being without him
I've made new friends, gained a new family
I've been on adventures and seen some amazing countryside.
I've seen grief in ways people can't imangine.
I've seen joy I've seen love and I've seen compassion.
I've also seen ugliness in people that I will never understand.
I truly hope 2020 has taught people gratitude and empathy, forgiveness and people have gained faith.
I pray 2021 brings us light, Peace, joy lots of love, and many fabulous adventures.
Be kind to one another, love one another, laugh often and most of all seek joy every damn day.

rmf - No apologies necessary. I'm glad I live in an area where social distancing is pretty much a way of life...most people here in South Dakota who's "neighbor" lives a mile or more away (yeh cattle/farm country! LOL). rockjunquie - Tela, I'm glad I could put a smile on your face...and your husband's! I don't tell you enough how many times you make me smile on here. NDK - Nate, I'm so happy for you that you found love again. I went through a doubting spell in life awhile back and I was amazed at how finding love again gave me a different/better outlook on life in general. MsAli - Ali, I'm glad you too found someone special to have in your life. It truly can make a world of difference. You're awesome and deserve "awesomeness" in your life!

MsAli and NDK I think it is really cool that y'all met through RTH. If you make any plans for the future, at some point, I hope we can do something fun on the board for you.

Of course I figured this out a long time ago, but I am so happy for you two!
I'm so glad to know that Vince and I aren't the only weirdos that met on a rock board on the internet! (Kidding about the weirdo part).

I know that this "Rocky" relationship did not start yesterday( though I am just finding out today). However, I did note that yesterday was the birthday of ARPANET. That is the Govenment project that started the internet in case you did not know. So you could say that your relationship is our tax dollars at work. Which is true from time to time, relationships can be quite taxing. Just be careful it is hard to have a good relationship when your are "stoned" all the time.

Heck yes! 2020 (all things considered) was about a 5 out of 10 for me. There was loss (family members), and heartache (friendships). Nov/December were the most stressful months I can remember in all my years, BUT they're over! No rain, no rainbows though. I improved my attitude a lot (HUGE!). I learned more than I can remember learning in school. My policy of "honesty over profits" led to the ultimate compliment; a customer told me that I had given him the best service, from anyone, ever. I smile every time I think of it. And that doesn't even include the rock stuff! I came here, and was welcomed warmly, got friendship and education! Fun stories, funny jokes (one even made jamesp laugh I got to send some rocks, I received some - both just for the sheer joy of sharing - and the inspiration... I even learned some new slang! I now use "pulled a South Dakota" as slang for any sort of hand related injury when grinding or cutting rocks. Wonder where that came from...

In 2020 I fell in love too. In love with retirement. It had it's challenges and doubtless more to come, such is life, but overall this transition is better than expected.

James, thank you so much for the kind words. People like yourself make it easier to be "nicer". You're an amazing source of knowledge and encouragement. You are always willing to point someone in the right direction and do so with patience and deft touch on the keyboard - and for those things about you, I am very grateful. So, you too were a source for people being able to keep their chin up during trying times.
