Actually 3 days off, today was rockhounding day so I thought I'd share a couple of pics. Some scenery, a rock shop that's about 25 minutes from me, and a chunk of stone that I bought for three dollars that I'd like an ID on if anyone knows. I also got 4 Mexican Crazy Lace slabs that I couldn't resist. Oh, and I did find numerous Fairburns but those pics will have to wait until Friday. Who am I kidding, I'll post those on Monday. 😁

How is it that you get to have how many square miles of nothing that appears to have nothing but rocks on it? Thanks for the ride and show.

Very interesting terrain! You've posted pictures of it before and it looks quite expansive. How cool that there might be Fairburns in all of that country. What a great easter egg hunt.
I like how you wear bright colors, as it would be easier to spot you by others traveling with.

There's several ways of hunting this area- straight to the big rock beds or wander the pastures and find random rocks/smaller rock beds. I've said before that I think it's all a matter of persistence and luck. Mostly luck.
That's actually my youngest son. Mostly I wear the brown coveralls- I think I blend in with the grasslands, especially in the fall and winter! But he is definitely easy to find...

I agree. I've always thought that roaming the endless rock piles looking for that one or two special rock is really fun. I've always been kind of jealous of you folks (Michigan lakes, or South Dakota plains) who have expansive regions where you can just go off.
Well I have found my own endless pile of rocks. It is the massive and expansive banks of the Colorado river which in some places is 5-10 miles wide from where it runs now as only a trickle.
When I need a break from intellectual work, I just drive out there and roam around for a few hours.
I just wish that I had Fairburns! Hehe.

Kind of like fishing, even if I don't catch anything it's still a good day! 'Course catching a nice rock (and by that I mean a Fairburn) is better than not.

I can't believe that you mentioned that it is like fishing. I don't think I've ever mentioned that to anyone, but that is exactly the way I look at hunting for rocks. It gets you outdoors in to the wilderness just like fishing. And even if you get skunked, then you had fun trying anyway.
Well said!
