It is time to oil the motor on the Raytech Gem Maker grinder.
The problem is that I cannot find any place where oil can go in to this motor. I have checked both sides.
And I know that the the motor is in a cradle, which has split bells that clamp down on resilient (rubber) rings which hold bearings.
Based on the HP rating (1/3), I believe the bearings to be sleeve bearings.
There was one plastic cap which I pried off the side, but it was hiding some wiring only:
So the instructions to add 30 drops of SAE 10 motor oil are not obvious to me.
It would seem to me that there would be some oil port. With a cap perhaps. Which could be easily accessed from either side.
Or do I need to completely pull the motor off the grinder, disassemble the whole cradle, unbolt each side of the motor independently (thus disassembling the motor itself) in order to get to the bearings inside. And the repeat this procedure with the other side. Just to oil it?
Anyone have any advice? Thank you.

Second pic, Bill, looks like an oil cup covered in crud . . . just above the slotted screwhead.

not sure I see it on the second photo, but maybe? the third... usually an orifice on the collar behind the clamp. if installed with thought, it would be on 'top' to allow the oil to feed down to the felt/bronze sleeve. New motors usually have plugs, which tend to get lost. Wouldn't hurt to cover the electrical connection opening while you're at it.

I see what you mean. I think parfive might be referring to the 3rd picture, where oregon has highlighted the spot in question. This thing is intentionally mounted in a cradle, and it makes sense that oil would travel downwards (or an oil port would be found topside) to the bearing (on each side of the shaft). I need to get that crud off from those spots on both sides now and have another look. I appreciate the input very much!!
[EDIT] Oh, and yes I put the plug back on, to cover the electrical opening which you see in the last picture (#4). Thank you for mentioning that.

Yup, third pic. Screwed that up. oregon Yeah, you circled the left end of what looked to me like the spring-loaded cap for an oil port. Got one that style on my furnace circulator motor along with two that seal with a spring-loaded ball bearing.

Logged in just to thank parfive and oregon for spotting the oil ports. I guess they just didn't appear to be there for me and I was looking right at them (mostly). Picture #2 covers up the oil port perfectly, and Picture #3 is the spot. Once I removed all the dust and dirt they both magically appeared! Task complete! Thank you both!
[edit] Question parfive. Is that David Byrne (Talking Heads) in your avatar?? Striking resemblance if I am mistaken.

NevadaBill It actually is was a striking resemblance, Bill—that one pic, anyway—but that is him . . . although my beard kinda ruins it now. : )
