I read the tutorial on Obsidian (Thank you, thank you!).
What would you tumble obsidian with if you only have 3 pieces? I got 3 pieces in my Madagascar pack and I did not put them in with the other stones. I may be able to scrounge up another piece, but don't think I would have a full selection for a 3# barrel.
Would it be bad to add the Sodalite which is a similar hardness, or would the obsidian slice it to flinders? Should I just fill out with pea gravel, ceramic, or random sacrificial smalls? Smash some wine bottles?

Funny thing - This is my next material after I finish the mixed load of Agate and quartz I'm currently running in my rotary.
I ordered some silver Obsidian to round out the pieces of obsidian I got in the madagascar pack. Read up on the tutorial and looking forward to starting it in a few weeks.

I'm a big fan of Mahogany Obsidian, better than the plain black stuff. I would suggest you buy enough mahogany obsidian for a full tumbler load, not mixing what you have with other stuff. Use the tumbling guides here for obsidian and please post pictures of your results. It makes a very cool polished rock. It seems to have a lot of power, yeah well! Here are some interesting videos about obsidian. www.mindat.org/min-27030.html
