Alright folks! I got given a small tumbler for Xmas from the other half. I'm loving it, and I'm a way into my first batch.
I make compost for the garden and know the benefits of rock dust. Does anyone add slurry to their compost pile?
I think the fungi would utilise the nutrients, but I'm unsure about original grit.
Any ideas? What do you lot do with the slurry? I don't like wasting stuff . Thanks all You've got some amazing pictures

I'm also interested in your ideas about tumbling flint. I haveany pieces of collected English flint , but I think it's maybe too hard?

Welcome!
I'm interested in hearing the responses you get about dumping used slurry in compost. My wife would appreciate that if that is a good option.

It depends upon the type of rock. The best for the garden that I have used is apatite, because it is high in phosphate and calcium. The worst that I collect contain arsenic or mercury. I am not aware of any great advantage putting good rock into compost, because it can usually go straight into the garden. However, I just dump silica (agate, fossil wood, amethyst, etc) into my gravel driveway. I do the same with feldspars, because they can contain aluminum which I don't want in my veggies. Also, it is just easier to clean my rocks on the driveway.

eris My thoughts are not in the compost. Although most of the rocks I tumble or grind are only respiratory hazards they may have some heavy metals in them from time to time. Like fluorite may have Pb, Zn, Cd. since I don't know the analysis I prefer to spread it out on my lawn and then I use lawn clippings in my compost. It spreads it out just in case. I am a true believer in the solution to pollution is dilution.

Thanks folks. I think the solution suggested by mf is probably the easiest for me to implement. Thanks again.

Make sure no chemicals are in the slurry either, like Borax - it will kill vegetation...
