Finally got around to building a second head for our Richardson's Polisher.
Piece of laminated particle board (similar to "stock" head) with a 3/8" pipe flange to join it to the shaft. Had to "hone" the ID of the pipe flange. It's a cast piece, and the set screw was really close to where there was a stop in the ID. Didn't want the set screw right on the end of the shaft, so I drilled it out all the way through with a stepped drill bit.
Will probably put 0.3 micron alumina on this one. The stock one has optical cerium on it.
- UPDATE SHOWING RESULTS -
Here's a slab of jade that hadn't been worked since it came off the saw. Saw marks still visible in the half I polished with this new head.
I think it will do.

It turns at 215 RPM as delivered new. Wouldn't want it to be much faster. It can get "grabby" as it begins to dry.

On my bucket list to fabricate. So expect few questions like what is the material you have the leather wired to. Should make up a material list. Could I have a picture of the frame also?
Looks like you would be a natural to make drums!

Thanks, guys. I ran a face-polished piece of pet wood up against it (just dry leather) to see how it felt. Seems like it's gonna' work fine.
toiv0 - for the disc I used a piece of an old desktop that was laminated on both sides. The leather is wired to a 18" x 5/16" spring.
That's really all there is to it. A piece of 3/4" thick "wood", an off-the-shelf pipe flange, and a spring with the ends looped together.
