Did any of you notice how many users (members and guests) were on here an hour ago? It was an unusually high number and I'm wondering the cause. For instance I noted at one point there were 61 folks on the specimen page. Could it be the weather has everyone cooped up surfing the net?

Yes, I noticed that as well.
I belong to a snake forum: Usually there are about 200-300 people navigating the forum at any given point in time...some days there are thousands of users (5000+). I suspect that someone on social media/youtube will make a comment or reference an item on the site and a swarm of people will appear temporarily. Since 61 people were looking at the specimen page: There may have been something referenced there from another source.

That's what I thought too, and when I looked closer it wasn't just the specimen page, it was all over the site. I also notice it set a record for the most viewers at a single moment.

More likely is electronic trolling. Its 15 hours after your first message and there are 5 members and 61 guests showing as online at present. Lets guess that the 61 are primarily machine scooping up email addresses and other important stuff in their eyes. Most such visits are machines .

That makes sense because the number of members listed were typical numbers but the guests were abnormally high.

Unfortunately the Proboards forum software does not allow us to look at sources of traffic to the domain. I used to run a fish keeping forum on the phpbb platform with control of the domain and it was always fun to see where the traffic was originating. If I saw a major spike coming from a specific spot on the internet I could follow it back and see what it was that someone had put up that was driving eyeballs to us. I could also mostly identify what electric robot crawler was causing what activity. Can't do any of that on this platform.

I could also mostly identify what electric robot crawler was causing what activity. Can't do any of that on this platform. Back in the day, when I was actively involved as an Admin. on an RC web forum, we had the same ability to back-track phishing crawlers as well. Although then, we owned our domain and sub-contracted with two other server distribution providers that monitored "firewall" protections........In my three years of activity there, we were only "hacked" once, shut us down for three days........ended up coming from a simple "search" tool that had been placed in one of the providers E-mail CSP's assigned to Yahoo........even Yahoo wasn't aware until we and a couple other sites crashed. Thanks to their techs and one of our own "nerds", the door was traced to a Russian crew who had friends working within a Euro based Yahoo campaign........not much was published about it and we were told to keep our mouth's shut......lol
That "type" of issue is seldom seen anymore.......it's a wonder though, since sites like Proboards sell "marketing data" to survive just like the vast amounts of all public domain providers........maybe it's monitored and secured much more tightly due to it being handled by so many "need to know" lurkers using search engines in every environment were a buck can be made........Thank You Google, Amazon, Yahoo, Microsoft, Yandex, Aol, ect....ect....ect......!
