OK ... after much deliberation I managed to narrow it down to three ... and cabbed all three yesterday. Can I post them all and have you guys tell me which one you will vote for and I'll enter that one? No???

Ok since y'all aren't gonna cooperate with my plan - here is my entry. I did three cabs yesterday, Starry Night jasper, Apache Sage rhyolite, and an Owyhee jasper but I kept coming back to the Owyheee so I guess that's the one. Nice cab Tommy. Makes me wonder what the other ones looked like!

Ok here's my entry for this month. It's amy sage and a little disappointment... so here's the poopy part... It fell off when I was heating up the dop to remove it and cracked in half But I super glued it back together and am entering it anyway. Don't have any more time to cut another. I'm calling it day or night: Good luck everyone!

Here is my entry. I used a piece of turquoise gifted to me, that was self collected in Nevada by Youtuber Neal Foster. This is my second attempt using a flat lap to cab. Prior to this I have only made flats. I took it to 1200 grit AO and am awaiting a shipment of diamond grits (3000 and 14,000) for future cabs. I freehanded the shape, because Neal recommended letting the rock during the shaping tell you what it wants to be. The slab is on the right side of the dop station. I had to flip it over before attaching the stick. Here are the results:

Zack decided to work on some Owyhee too so he'll be posting from his account for the first time in the next few days. He said critique him to the fullest!

First timer here, got my CabKing for christmas and am still learning the basics. Wife is "rockhoundingwithkids" and talked me into posting. So far I have been learning how to work with poppy/brecciated jaspers that we self collect in northern Ca (Thanks for that obsession Tommy!) I've completed probably ~20 pieces of varying quality thus far. We have been getting Owyhee picture jasper from my cousin, who lives in Boise and has been exploring and collecting in the Owyhees over the last couple months (he is also a newbie and recently joined the forum) This material seems harder to get a good polish on than the jaspers that I have been getting used to, especially scratches from the 280 wheel on the edges. As far as a process, I still am learning from scratch and just try to find a shape to maximize the good looking parts (main source of learning is youtube and the beginner mistakes thread on this forum). I cut some slabs from a big chunk and was impressed with the blues- so tried to frame it as a sort of sky scene over mountains and a valley. The right edge had a pointed dark triangle that looked like a tree that the wife really liked, but i screwed that up while doming and now it looks like a random floating spot over a bush-like thing. Lets call it a bird. Anyway, open to criticism. I'm enjoying this new hobby and the challenges that come with it. -Z Rough In Process... tree still standing Tree gone

Welcome!
Very nice stone for a newb, especially with a difficult shape like a rectangle. I like it!

2muchgrit - as Robin said - proper rectangles with pointed corners that didn't take a dive in girdle height are VERY difficult for me. Don't we love it when a tree stays standing and it's heartbreaking and all too familiar to watch a favorite design element disappear but overall it's still a gorgeous stone. P.s. welcome to the forum Zach! Nice first post
