Something tells me you may have been a wee bit excited when you saw the insides of that one! That is a fantastic jasper!

Damn! I want a box of those dirty rocks.
Notice I didn't even ask "How much?". That's an incredible slab.

Tommy - I slabbed Number 5 today...the one you referred to as possibly being Dirty Jasper. This is what it started looking like inside. I only got seven small slabs and three of them looked like the following pic. Do you still think Dirty Jasper? (Anyone else can chime in too...this isn't JUST for Tommy! ) That's a nice looking agate. Right?!? Thanks Tela! (Anyone else can chime in too...this isn't JUST for Tommy! ) I'm pretty sure that's called Fantastic Jasper. Yeah, that's probably it.
That's going to make one hell of a cab. Sir.
Thanks Mike! I was looking at the slabs and I think I should be able to get three or four cabs out of this...depending on size. (Anyone else can chime in too...this isn't JUST for Tommy! ) *boom!* drop the mic son and walk away... No. No, that is definitely not dirty jasper. That looks like what miket said - fantastic jasper with a big ole beautiful pocket of plume agate in it. I did not see that coming LOL - Thanks Tommy! I would have never guessed that was going to show up either! I would have been happy with the look of the original "dirty jasper"...but I ain't gonna lie - I'll gladly take this! Something tells me you may have been a wee bit excited when you saw the insides of that one! That is a fantastic jasper! Thanks Brian! I will say I couldn't get my hands dried off fast enough to get a picture of this! LOL Damn! I want a box of those dirty rocks.

Thanks Vince! This was just one of six rocks in an eBay auction for unidentified "jaspers"...the whole lot was around $3 a pound...so I think I did "ok" on this one!

Looks like you made out like a bandit on that deal. Sure is a gorgeous rock; makes the heart flutter when you crack something like that open and get that first look, doesn't it?

Just an observation, I have seen some of the Big Diggins(Deming) pieces cut with mixtures of plume/moss and sort of a Jasper. There's a lot of variations of Agate and Jasper in some of the float material you find there. It does have a Yellowish White coating, you rock does not.

I do feel like I got the better end of the deal on this one. The reason I wanted it was because I was sure the one piece was unlabeled Noreena - and the other pieces looked interesting enough. This one turned out to be the best of the bunch though. Just an observation, I have seen some of the Big Diggins(Deming) pieces cut with mixtures of plume/moss and sort of a Jasper. I'm not sure what exactly this is, but I do know it just moved quickly up near the front on the cabbing queue!

Thanks Robin! I was hoping for a temporary tattoo, but I'll settle for a surprise plume agate!

Wow, that is a nice agate. I've never seen anything like that from Oregon Looks like mossy plume from Indonesia. Thanks! I am more than pleased with this one! I think we've determined the lot did not originate from Oregon. The Noreena was the first indicator to me! LOL I wish I knew what this is or where this actually came from. The first cut on the slab gave no indication of the mossy agate pocket hiding in the center...kinda like a Tootsie Pop! (I didn't lick it though! ) If you ever DO find some of this out that way, I'm coming to see you post haste!

If I ever found a rock like that I'd have a Heart Attack and die on the Beach then get washed into the Sea and recycled into fish food and crab bait...

If I ever found a rock like that I'd have a Heart Attack and die on the Beach then get washed into the Sea and recycled into fish food and crab bait... Don't do that!!! I would miss the vicarious beach trips tremendously! The exterior gave no indication whatsoever this was hiding inside...just an ugly black husk looking surface. (Kind of like a lot of hiding Fairburn Agates I never find because there's no fortifications showing on the surface! )

I was just joking
Although I've had several near death experiences on the beach, The Waves haven't pulled me out yet Watch out for the Sneaker Waves and getting Washed off the Rocks at High Tide...

I know you were joking. We lived in California when I was a kid. My sister got pulled in by a riptide when we were out at the beach one time. My dad had to go and save her. I still remember that and I had to have been 5 or 6 when that happened. I'm glad the Old Man of the Sea hasn't claimed you! I won't go into the water as I am deathly afraid of sharks...but I'd walk the beach!

jasoninsdHere's that Old Stock tree stump that you liked before I absolutely love this picture! You really do make me miss seeing the beach. My sister lives in Washington state now...maybe I need to plan a road trip! I just zoomed in on that pic. I think there's a small Carnelian in front of that stump right at the bottom of the pic! (Maybe wishful thinking on my part. LOL)

I'm tagging socalagatehound to see if he might know. He's cut more plume agates than anyone I know of. I would say that it is more of a flowergarden than a true plume agate. No stalks on the plumes, just the flowerheads. So.... there are several possibilities, none of them in Oregon, although I bet there are some deposits somewhere in Oregon that fit this.....Maybe out around Borthwick Ranch. Some of the plumes from there look like West Texas, so it's possible. That being said, this looks like West Texas (Walker Ranch or thereabouts), Northern Mexico (Sonora), or the Cady Mountains in So Cal. The black exterior is interesting. The interior green with the red flowergarden is not really limited to one geographic spot, but it is screaming Christmas Agate from the Cadys. That would be my guess, with Texas and Mexico as back-ups. I'm tagging Mel Sabre52 on this because he's a true expert. Craig

I just learned something! I didn't know the difference between plumes and flowerheads! I just googled the Christmas Agate (aka Picket Plume) from Cady Mountains and I do see some similarities...
