Good video Greig! Did Jeff quit because he had to go, or because you were kicking his tail on the finds that day! LOL

Good video Greig! Did Jeff quit because he had to go, or because you were kicking his tail on the finds that day! LOL Jeff was whooped from digging all day. He was looking forward to a nice dinner and hotel room. He planned on going to another site the next day.

Cool! I never even heard of titanite before. Learn something new every day. I am guessing you aren't a Sagittarius. LOL I have seen coloured titanite cut in jewelry, but it is relatively soft (5.5 mohs).

LOL I have seen coloured titanite cut in jewelry, but it is relatively soft (5.5 mohs). I am a Sagittarius, but I always heard the stones were topaz and citrine. But, there are alternate stones, too, and I don't know what they are.
The titanite looks very metallic. Do people polish it or what?

The titanite's main mineral is titanium, so therefore the metallic luster. Unfortunately, it is relatively soft (5.5 mohs). I have not tried polishing any yet. I have seen some cut for jewelry, but usually it is the coloured (green, yellow orange, red) stones.

Great video! There are stunning titanites (back when it was still known as sphene) from small deposits in northern Baja California not too many miles from the border. I remember reading about the deposits in old Lapidary Journal articles. These were considered among the best ever found and some were cut into small gems.
