SO the wife and I are filing our taxes and Turbo Tax has been a NIGHTMARE!!! So the back story (without giving out personal details) is I have a supplement income of about $600 from a non work job (no taxes taken out) and after 2 hours of us Screaming at each other, the computer, the live chat, the dog, the wall, the tv, the cell phones, well you get the idea, we finally had everything done- went to file and there are forms that need reviewing. Ugg. Long and short is this $600 has triggered Turbo Tax to auto generate several forms that do not apply to us and it has locked out our return. We finally got the forms deleted and we're able to file. I have NEVER had such a user unfriendly program (other than our payroll companies website lol). I will say the live chat was very helpful and without it we would still be screaming! Yes I know we had the deadline extended, but we are actually getting a refund this year (first time in many years!) and want to get the money now before the rush starts!

I used taxact this year after using turbotax for the past few years. Probably not going back. Turbotax is looking for any little excuse to charge you, like for an educational tax credit.

One of the efile providers for the IRS is eztaxreturn which is free. I previously did my taxes and mailed. I'm retired and have a lot of w4 and it is a pain to manually enter all the information. It was accepted by the IRS and am waiting for the refund. I used it last year but lost all the emails and paper. I couldn't remember my user id, so I used the get user id option which was suppose to email me the info. Never got it so I created a new account. Next year, I'm hoping I can bring forward and update from this year's return.

We used Turbo tax twice. We figured the first year would be a learning experience. TT wouldn’t let us do something we/he knew needed to be done. Finally telephoned them. After discussing the situation with their experts for seven hours, we finally succeeded. Experts understood what needed to be done, but had trouble convincing their system.
The next year, we thought this should be a breeze. After seven more hours on telephone with their experts, we were done. No more TT for us.
We now turn it all over to tax expert. No trouble.

I used to do my online taxes via H R Block Free File. Last year paid to have them done, due to sale of property. Am having them done by the same accounting form this year. To me, the price is worth it.

I let my wife do my taxes. Through her, filing my taxes is easy and painless. The only drawback I have by doing this is that I never get any money back at all. She gets everything, including my direct deposit stimulus checks.

I have used Turbo Tax for Canada for many years. While I am not crazy about the software, I do like that it will harvest the prior year's info (where applicable) and also provides a compare current vs previous year so I can see if I was consistent. Tax time is always a bit emotional - where is the receipt? What is this tax change? Fill out a ton of details only to find out that the credit doesn't apply to me. How much total tax did I pay (again)?

Thank you all! so relieved that it was not us (I mean both the wife and I are college edumacated). We got confirmation that the IRS has indeed approved our return (phew what a load of my mind) Got and Email from TT trying to get us to upgrade (after we have declined it 3 times in the filing process). Yup all done with them.
