Robin finally got something to cut sheet stock for bezels. Local auction house had this one up online a couple of days ago, so I went after it.
It's an Ideal 22.5 x 28 inch cutter. Has one tiny chip outta' the blade, but it's toward the handle - around 20 inches into the cut. Should work.
Yes, that is a picnic table the thing is hanging over the edges of. Cutter was bigger than I thought from the auction photos... .

Paper cutters are great at cutting straight cuts on sheet metal. She will get a lot of use out of it.
What is the light colored circle for? Thanks.

Oh yeah! That "pizza cutter" looking thingy? (That's what I called it when looking at the auction photos.)
There's a handle on the other side of it, and it pushes a bar downward to hold whatever you're cutting in place for the cut.
Real beauty of this deal is that the auction price + auctioneer's premium + tax wouldn't even pay the sales tax on a new one this size.

Nice find Vince! I absolutely love online auctions. I almost got a shear on a stand a few weeks ago. Decided to pass on it because I couldn't get to the pick up in time without leaving work early. I think it went for under $20

That's what I was lusting for until Pat mentioned she used a paper cutter in another thread. Even the cheap guillotine shears are expensive and I couldn't justify dishing out the dough for one.
We got the paper cutter for under $40, including the auction house fee and taxes. I'm a happy camper. Now I just need to remove the rust on the blade and a couple of other areas of it and it will be good to go. The rust isn't bad, so hopefully I can get it done is a day.

Have you tried it out yet? What gauges can it cut? Enjoy!

Thanks for mentioning this before.

I just did a couple of trial cuts through .0125" (30 gage) galvanized. Had to hit it at moderate speed to cut 3" length smoothly and quickly.
Robin says the silver should cut more easily.

Nice find! Yeah, silver should cut much easier than galvanized.

The paper cutters should work great, if you are mainly cutting strips of thinner guage material. But if you are cutting shapes, a Beverly Shear is invaluable. They can cut heavier gauge material, and like I said, in shapes, not just strips. Years ago, we picked up a used one off of Craigslist for $30 when we were cutting copper sheeting when making custom lighting fixtures. For even thicker copper, we used a pneumatic nibbler to rough cut pieces from 4' x 10' sheets of copper, then trimmed those to the lines with the Beverly.

Got rid of my electric nibbler when I got out the steel building biz, and there have been times I've wished I still had it.

To cut thinner silver the tolerance has to be close otherwise it will not make a smooth cut . Not sure of the term but the silver will fold instead of cut. The one I tried would only cut up to 24 ga.

Just tested the cutter on .005" aluminum. No gage - 30 gage was .010" on one chart I checked.
Cut two strips like butter - no rolled edges. Straight and even. Robin said "Oh hell yeah that'll work!".

Robin grabbed a couple of small pieces of sterling scrap to test.
24 ga cut relatively easily.
20 ga cut with no problem - just had to hit it faster with steady pressure.
Should work for what she wanted. I even put new rubber feet on it (modified rubber chair leg tips) and still in for under $40.
