Hi there! I keep running across this forum when I search for my newbie questions on Google so I figured I might as well sign up I got my first tumbler in January and I'm almost done with my first batch of rocks that isn't the ones that came with my tumbler. I have 2 more months of chemotherapy and then I'm excited to get to be more active in general. My 5 year old is very curious about the rocks she sees me playing with so I'm hoping to have actual info about the process and the rocks themselves to share with her. I've bought my rough so far, but I'm hoping to find some rocks in the wild eventually! I live in the desert so I'm sure it will be hit or miss.

Welcome from Kentucky. What kind of rough have you purchased for your tumbler? A lot of early lessons are learned trying to tumble material that is too difficult, even with years of experience. That's not a bad thing, as long as you're willing to stick it out and learn, but some advice before starting could be useful.

from Virginia! Glad to hear your chemo will be ending. You'll be out looking for more rocks.
I'm not a real tumbler, either, but I have heard it said that if you put in crappy rough, you get crappy tumbles. So, yeah, you don't want to do your best stuff or hardest stuff first, but you do want some winners to be proud of when you are done.
