I’ve always loved rocks and have thought about getting a rock tumbler for years. I have 2 grandchildren who share my love for rocks, so perfect excuse to jump into rock tumbling. At this point I know I want a vibratory tumbler but haven’t decided which I should get. I also need to educate myself and the grandkids on which types of rocks can be tumbled successfully. I’ll be searching the forums and threads, but any advice you have would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome! Rockybee, vibes are great for pre shaped material(hard) but not good for shaping hard agate. A rotary would definitely help work hard rough rock. I pre shape hard agate/jasper cabs on a flat lap and finish in the vibe with excellent results. I don't normally work with soft stones and can't help in that area.
