So I am new to rock hounding and this site, one of my friends got me into rocks a few months ago and it has quickly turned into a bit of an obsession (husband is just thankful rocks are not living animals since last hobby I had resulted in me having 200 rare breed chickens). Anyways we went out rockhounding in North Phoenix Arizona and found so many wonderful pieces and I just can’t believe that we would find so many pieces that appear to be petrified wood in one place. This one however seems especially different from the rest of what we found. It is very blue when you view it wet and the outside look exactly like bark. Anyways, is this petrified wood or something else? It is very smooth already and very hard (at least a 7 imgbox.com/bZLTCOdrimgbox.com/q25975xximgbox.com/wOMSECj8imgbox.com/tQ9N5JM0

Welcome to RTH!
Now don't take this wrong
its always difficult to tell from photo's and the ones displayed are small
Nonetheless it looks like some gneiss schist
lot of really cool looking rocks in the Squaw Peak/Dreamy Draw area really are
as far as petrified goes could be
and if this heat doesn’t abate we’ll all be petrified …mostly
so welcome again from Ed under a gniess rock in Phoenix

Thank you so much, it is such a pretty rock I have it on my rock shelf in my office. I found it up by the lake pleasant area but I think you are right after looking at images online. I agree about the heat it is going to be a wicked summer!

Ha ha ah its not that bad for some reason I have a habit (very short one ; of hounding in the high noon sun anyway PMP does have some real nice sparkly stuff not the best from lapidary/tumbler perspective still interesting geology and the views are anyway stay cool maybe cross paths down that rocky road edmohs
