Hello everyone, this is my first post. I'm very happy I found this site, I think its a really cool idea for us new comers trying to learn all we can about rocks. 2 years ago my husband Bought me a 6" cabking and also bought a faceting machine off of Amazon the Jade fauceting machine, it's a pretty cheaply made machine so I'm hoping to figure out what I can do to turn it into something I can actually facet on. I imagine just finding a different dopping arm with cheater and idex or whatnot will solve the problem or maybe its just missing one or 2 attachments, idk. Ill post pics of what I have and some of the wraps I've done. Wirewrapping is what got me into this mess in the first place. I'm very glad to have found a group so willing to help and share info, it truly means alot. So again thank you very much!

Update..... yea!! I had the talkatap app and I see here its really easy to post pictures. So here are some pictures of what I'm working with, 6in. Cabking and this cheapo "jade faceting machine". I recently bought the nova rez wheels and seem to like them pretty good they are just very very aggressive. My poor fingers and knuckles have been paying the full price. Speaking of fingers I'm sure lucky to have my 2 tips of my middle and ring finger on left hand. Kinda let them go In Under the pulley belt on my very old school bench grinder. I have to push the belt to get it a turning and well this time I paid the price for not paying to good attention. Learned a sweet lesson though. I. Very lucky it wasn't worse than it is. Always watch what you are doing, only a blink of an eye and shit can go south really quickly!

Thanks for posting pics! Your wire wrapping is gorgeous! You should definitely make posts in the wire wrapping section and show off your goodies! Oh...and been there on the finger mishap!

Now you need to get some quartz to practice with (1st) When you do get some quartz grind a flat spot in the center of the piece your going to cut cold dopping is way easier using super glue it to your metal dop sticks that came with your machine (wipe both the stone and your dop stick with alcohol wait for a couple seconds then place glue on the dop then stick it on the stone) Wait 20 minutes then Wiggle the stone after you glued it up if it stays glued your all set 2) now you need to grind a girdle (I am going to start by telling how to make a faceted girdle) (Next) Find the lowest point on the stone to do that you need to set your index gear in a freewheeling position or do it manually one tooth at a time to find the lowest point on the stone. Now that you found the lowest point. Make sure you set your PROTRACTOR at 90* (Now) set the dop spindle or dop yolk) your machine had 2 Allen screws on the mast loosen those raise the mast until the yolk arm is lining up with the protractor to read 90* tighten everything up Double check everything is the stone lined up so it’s at the lowest point on the stone? Don’t worry if you rotate the stone and you notice the protractor setting changes it’s supposed to done right because your starting from the lowest point on the quartz rough. (3) now your going to cut 8 girdle facets using a 96 index gear set at 96* - 48* - 72* - 24* - 84* - 12* - 60* - 36* There’s the protractor set at 90* the index gear has all the numbers at the opposite end of the stone This is the mast it raises up and down ( by loosening and fighting those Allen screws) to give you the correct angles for the crown (top of stone) ( pavilion is the bottom of the stone) in between are a number of angles called facets these are brass dop sticks of different sizes for different sized stones, on the lap (16mm stone Sunburst cut) I am ready to finish lining up the faceted girdle to the main facet on the pavilion before adding the pavilion girdle facets Once they are lined up I can go ahead with rest of the pavilion facets and polish everything then remove the stone redop it and cut the crown and remainder of break facets The Smokey in my hand is a (14mm) I over cut the table and reduced the star facets. Now I need to recur the star facets then polish them and remove the finished stone To remove a super glued stone soak it over night in finger nail polish remover when it falls free from the dop stick wipe off with a cotton pad I buy at the dollar store then give it a quick wash in alcohol to remove any left over residue My machine is a old timer MDR 200 no longer in production You need to buy a how to facet book I started with Facet Cutters Handbook By Edward J Soukup For faceting quartz check with markymark See if he has any Good luck Oh welcome to the forum from Maine

I for got to rough cut a stone you need at least 360 grit rough grind 600 grit med fine to remove scratches 1200 grit good prepolishing Cerium polish for quartz
I use a 3000 lap then polish starting out you won’t need to until you see if you like it and want a better looking stone
