My youngest grandson had a flight to Washington (Portland). They dropped his connecting flight in TX. He is 16 and has never flown before. Now he is stuck in a huge airport! Mom and I are a wreck worried about him. Dad got on the horn and was told that the earliest he could get out was Sunday! WHAT!!?? OMG. Well, I don't know what dad said, but he now has a flight out at 6 our time. Let's hope they don't lose his luggage! Mom wasn't too keen on him taking this trip to begin with for just such problems. I feel so bad for him. Hopefully, he'll make the most of it and have an interesting, if not, fun time.

Eeeek!! Good luck, everyone. Portland is in Oregan Seattle is in Washington. Right, his destination is right over the border, so he is flying into Portland. Sorry abt the confusion. I'm a wreck right now. Mom had to work today, luckily dad took off in case there were any problems. He was on hold with American Airlines for 3 hours! I don't know how my daughter will make it through the day. Luckily, it's a short day. She has been so worried about him taking this trip.

That's ridiculous. Things sure have changed it seems like, customer service-wise. I'll send good thoughts!

I'm sure he'll be fine and this is a lot more stressful for grandma and the parents than him. He will end up with a heck of a story to tell!

I hate getting stuck at an airport by myself after many, many flights, so I can only imagine how stressful it is for a first timer! I hope he makes it to his destination without any more excitement.

He'll be just fine. Glad things are working out for him. Whatever you do, don't send him to Phoenix to buy a lightbulb as good help can be hard to find out there. mohs

I just had similar issue trying to get home from my grandfather's funeral in Ohio. Daughter and I had been staying with an uncle of mine while in Ohio to save $.when got into Ohio my rental car prepaid reservation apparently was for nothing as no cars were available. Uncle. Who lives 1.5 hours from airport, came and picked us up from airport. 2 days later got the rental car. Our return flight had connecting flight in chicago that was canceled due to weather and no other flights for 30 hours. By time finally made it home I had less than 6 hrs before had to be to work.... one thing is for sure- getting stuck at houston intercontinental airport is much better than getting stuck at Dayton international airport, where inside is reduced to 1 bar to get food from and the worst gift shop/newsstand I've ever seen!

He's in Dallas. I haven't been there, but I'm sure it's huge.
Don't even get me started on car rentals. Been burnt a few times. The last time we rented one, DH went to pick up our reserved Toyota and they didn't have it. He was at the counter with one other guy. The teller said he had 2 cars- one being another Toyota (an Avalon) and one being some crap fest other make. DH, who is a big, mild mannered guy, immediately piped in that if he didn't come home with the Toyota his wife would kill him. He got the Toyota. We had to put a lot of miles on the car and I trust Toyotas. Speaking of which, DH just walked in from picking up our 1997 Avalon 6 cyl from the shop. Got new rotors. They were original. We've never had any real issues with the car with over 200,000. We are, however, looking at another car (a Toyota Camry 6 cyl or Avalon). This one we'll pass on to the granddaughter. It's got plenty of good miles left on her.

Kinda the same happened to me at Vancouver airport when I was younger. I missed my afternoon flight and had to wait to standby for the redeye at 1:30 AM. That flight was full and the next one to try for was 6:30 AM. I didn't want to find a hotel, so fell asleep at the gate. A couple of hours later I was grabbed by the RCMP in the empty terminal, wondering how I got there and why I was there. They tossed me out of the airport, so I ended up getting a hotel and used the phone to get my seat two days later. Airport hotels are expensive, but I made the best of it. Hope your young fellow does the same.
