Kinda the same happened to me at Vancouver airport when I was younger. I missed my afternoon flight and had to wait to standby for the redeye at 1:30 AM. That flight was full and the next one to try for was 6:30 AM. I didn't want to find a hotel, so fell asleep at the gate. A couple of hours later I was grabbed by the RCMP in the empty terminal, wondering how I got there and why I was there. They tossed me out of the airport, so I ended up getting a hotel and used the phone to get my seat two days later. Airport hotels are expensive, but I made the best of it. Hope your young fellow does the same. Aw man, that sounds awful! Luckily, he made it there ok and didn't have to get a room.

I have had connecting flights through Dallas 4 times in the last year. Something strange happens on every flight I have there. They are great about changing your departing gate, sometimes more than once.

Maybe there was a barroom brawl on his cancelled return flight.

Yep PDX is the airport of choice for folka headed into SW WA. First ever flight was Portland to MCRD San Diego, been on many since, all but the last one began and ended there. Glad it worked out, a 16yo kid stuck in any transportation hub can be scary.

My mother flew home last night from Seattle. She said on the flight from Seattle to Denver she had to sit in the middle seat. She said the person to her right AND the person to her left were BOTH reading a BOOK! Actual books!!! What are the chances that a person could be surrounded by two people NOT reliant on technological devices for entertainment?!? ( )

The kids always have a book with them at the optometrist, music lessons, school bus, etc. They get a lot of comments along the lines of "I didn't know kids read books anymore". I think we are single-handedly keeping our local bookstore and library open. That might be a slight exaggeration but browsing for a book at the store is never a problem. Now if you want to get a seat in the internet cafe part of the store good luck.

To mention how much of a "nerd" I was back then, I had a set of Encyclopedia Britannica in my room...I would actually read those cover to cover. (And yes, according to the 1970s definition, that made me a nerd! LOL)

Nothing better than just picking one up and opening it to a random page.

I grew up with encyclopedias, too. Mom said, "Go look it up." And we did. I would randomly read them, too. We had 3 sets, believe it or not. New American Standard, Colliers and Britannica. I believe those were the names, I'm really reaching into the past with these. We had a lot of children's reference books, especially science. They came out long before we went to the moon. The idea that the moon was ejection from the Earth was a really far fetched theory.

When it comes to books for me it's almost all non fiction educational reading these days. Don't get me wrong, I love me a little Vonnegut, Asimov, Heinlein, the ones who made you think. Good ones are all dead though. My brother got a Kindle for my almost 91 year old mom a month or so ago, and once I got her past the operating system learning curve, she now loves it. I will probably be next, the libraries here are well stocked, and no lack of stuff available for no cost to me, and no need for more bookshelves. Plus, as the eyes fail making the print size bigger is easy.

Mankind have been doing tasks for millennium.
Boiling spuds, waiting tables, taking reservations, checking out, et cetra…
And yet, all to often, one encounter situations where the wheel is getting reinvented…

I have no dial tone on my landline This happened a few years ago When it rains
I had called CenturyDink back then Put in a repair request They made out a work ticket with a promise for a Monday service call
Monday rolls around no contact no dial tone
Call back. They don;’t know what happened.
I said: whaddya mean ya don’t know ? you have a work ticket didn’t you dot an i or cross a t Its fundamental !
Well they corrected the situation
This time I refuse to call too much hassle I can live without a dial tone
No one ever calls anyway and I have no outgoing…mostly
As long as the DSL still connects to the internet I survive But eventually that will become an issue
Been contemplating getting rid of the landline & going mobile I’m little sketchy on that like my P.C. connection
anyway anyone who to call my landline please do 602 273 4626
maybe CenturyDink will get a clue
