Trying to restore a Sears 6lb tumbler (1960s?) for our rock club that came as a donation. I got it cleaned up and working but I need to find a belt or two. I think it was made by Star Diamond and several older posts say the belts are available but not what to use. We will be giving this to a younger member so I want to made it as trouble free as posable. Looks like a solid well built tumbler and it came with a unused extra drum. I don't want to get a call that the belt broke the first week because I just put anything on it.
Thanks

Any idea of what type of Belt? I can measure the size but have no idea what style because it came with a red rubber band. I do not tumble but I always hear about belts breaking and the person it is going to is only 13 so it needs to last. Thanks for the website I am sure they will have it if I can tell them what I need.

You didn't mention the shape of the pulley grooves, would have been helpful. Some tumblers use round belts like o-rings, and some use v belts. If it's convenient take the unit to a good auto parts store or an industrial supply place, good places for good help.

A big thanks to salpal48!! He knows a lot about these old Sears Tumblers and gave me the numbers for two belts one of which he said will fit. ( sears used different parts in different years) I have ordered the part and will test it out. When I confirm the right one I will post the part number and source in this post so anyone else searching in the future can find it. Some of this old lapidary equipment will outlast us all

I agree. Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea of the capacity? If you do, please tag me.

Capacity is listed as 6lbs A thin and tall barrel like a Lortone QT6 but the inside is has 6 flat sides not round. I was told Star diamond made them for both Wards & Sears Sorry I do not know how to Tag someone. I will look it up, Still trying to learn how to post photos again.

Nice! Sorry to bother you about tagging me. I can't figure out how to post pictures or tag people either. Thanks! To tag someone, just use the @ sign in front of the username. Sometimes the name showing is not the same as the username, so if you hover over their name it will give you the correct user name. You can also use the icon of the @(person) up above the post on the right hand side in the middle of the row. You can search for the person you want to tag and it automatically inserts for you.

My Sears Star Diamond has the plastic gears which, of course, the one is completely worn out. I found a replace gear that a company 3D prints but for 24 bucks and the other gears being plastic I feel like it’s not gonna work anyways.

I might try bringing it to a hardware store or bike shop to see if the have it. I wouldn't buy another plastic gear though.

I wonder if it could be converted to some kind of belt drive My research on sears tumblers showed that model with the gears to be junk. Save the barrel as it will work on other tumblers. Sal Palazzo is an expert on sears tumblers check his posts. I would think twice about $24 on a tumbler that old with a know flaw.

Lol yeah I suspect those gears will never work right and I bet they are loud as hell when running. I actually have 2 of these both with the plastic and between them can’t get one to work. It’s the big plastic white gear on both that are broke.
