Hello! I have been lurking around this board for a while, but I finally decided to join up. I've posted some stuff on the rock tumbling subreddit; if you frequent both places you may 'recognize' me from there. I enjoy finding, cutting, polishing, photographing, touching, and looking at rocks. Not sure what I am going to do with my piles of rocks after that, but those are thoughts for another day. I started in the hobby around 1-2 years ago. I do all my tumbling in rotary tumblers: a Lortone QT12, a Lortone 3A, and a National Geographic 'Pro'. Some rocks that I have rotary tumbled(hopefully the images work): Obsidian Quartzite + Mix Chalcedony Mix Citrine 'Silver Island' Chalcedony

Holy Crapola! These are fantastic! You've definitely nailed the tumbling and polishing! They're all great, but that Obsidian and Citrine are the bomb! I love that lower center piece on the Silver Island Chalcedony!

Thanks to both of you!
The 'Silver Island' (as I call it since I collected it in the Silver Island Mountain Range area) chalcedony is kind of challenging to tumble. It is filled with cracks and cavities, often throughout the rock. You tumble away some holes only to reveal new ones. Some are nice crystal filled pockets while others are less appealing. It also often has other types of rock mixed in with it (Rhyolite mostly, I suppose).

I have really begun to have a "thing" for moss! And if that's not moss...it sure looks like it! By the way...I had to Google hypodactylus...not what I was expecting!

I have really begun to have a "thing" for moss! And if that's not moss...it sure looks like it! By the way...I had to Google hypodactylus...not what I was expecting! Yeah me too! I love agates with plume/moss inclusions. I couldn't tell you for sure if those are moss or plume agates; it sure seems like a little of both! Hypodactylus is a username that I have used for a while now. I originally came up with it by combining 'Hypostomus' (genus of fish) and 'Rhacodactylus' (genus of gecko); thinking it was original. I then came to find out that it was a cute little frog! I guess fish + gecko = frog! Now that I think about it, that actually kind of makes sense.... 😃

I guess when you grow up in the desert looking at rocks, you might develop an affinity for them!
