Every southern boys dream RickB. Speaking of love... Carnivorous pitcher plants are loaded with bugs by late summer. This particular pitcher has a bright white top(the moth killer) that fills with moths on bright moon nights. Moonlight hits white top and glows like a lightbulb - sexually motivated moths come to the light only to get devoured. Pitcher can fill to the top and fall over due to weight of the moths on a long full moon night or long full moon cycle of days. Other pitcher varieties use other techniques to attract or trap various type bugs. S. Minor has clear windows inside top of pitcher that make bug think he can escape to thru the windows only to tire out and fall into the vat of acid below. video done a few days ago Sarracenia Minor w/trick windows  |

there is ant down under
the so called bulldog ant
cut in half
the head attacks the tail with its teeth
the tail replies in kind w/ stinging the head
until both halves tire out and retire
from the festivities...

The digestive juice smells strong of rancid meat rockjunquie. Must wash with strong soap to remove odor. Nasty. That was a dry batch, many bellies are filled with enzyme fluid over the top of the bugs. |

For three years in a row, I have seen the same praying mantis in my front yard, and even in my house the second time, on the ceiling by the front door. Here's a couple photos I took of it just the other day.  Becomes almost invisible with the correct background.  I could not find the photos from the first and second times I saw it, but I know they are hiding in my computer somewhere! Whilst looking for the photos, I ran across this YouTube video that I had saved. (dark humor) Enjoy!! |
