hummingbirdstones , Ahh, it must be in Idaho then...? Catmandewe will be thanked in this thread as well. Looks like a vacation might be heading to Idaho soon. jasoninsd Good thing you didn't tell me the trucks nickname in the parking lot at the Dollar General. Mixing a vehicle named Purple Passion with the fact that nobody can hear you scream in the Buttes... that might have put me on edge a bit more. Then you pull out the popper to knock out a rattler and I would be running for the hills! LOL The BBQ is in Quartzsite. He's down there every year doing the Desert Gardens show. The Pow-Wow is held during a long weekend in Desert Gardens.
You can have a gander at some of the threads in this search.

Wow! Great idea for a thread. Beautiful pics, too. And, yes Monsieur jasoninsd is definitely one of the white hats on this board (would that hat be a beret? or are you too sexy for your hat?).

Can you imagine how panicked you would've been if I would have had Dueling Banjos playing on a repeat loop on the way out to the Buttes! LOL The first play through of the song would have started out with, hey, I remember this song from somewhere... by the end of the song, oh no, what's happening. Then if the song started again I'm thinking jumping out of a moving vehicle would be the next logical step.

This thread just shows the awesomeness of the folks here on RTH. I can honestly say that I was misty eyed by the interaction of these two "strangers", bound not only by their love of all things rocks, but by the trusting venture of both parties. You two are just a reflection of this wonderful group, RTH. Without getting too philosophical, I think RTH is a good example of how culture (loosely defined) can bring out the best in people. At some point, many years ago, a group of people established a virtual community where those who love rocks interact in a way that is kind, civil, helpful, and generous. I see this from reading many hundreds (if not thousands) of old threads. Different members have been more or less active over the years, but those values (kindness, generosity, etc) began early, became established norms, and have persisted. An easy explanation would be that we rock-lovers are just a great group of people. Maybe, but it's not the whole story. Here's the other part: the RTH community is defined not only by a love of rocks, but just as importantly, by shared values about how to treat other people. Those new to the forum find it natural to interact with others in the same way because it is an established culture. Many RTH members have shown me the deepest form of generosity -- generosity with their time. When I have asked questions about rocks or equipment, I have always received numerous knowledgable and thoughtful responses from people who have probably answered the same or similar questions 100 times before. Although I do search the forum for answers before posting questions (as everyone should), I get the sense that if I were to dig deep enough, for long enough, the answer to almost everything rock related is somewhere in the archives. And yet, no one has ever told me to just use the search function, or has otherwise responded in any way that was not helpful, positive, supportive, and inspiring. This experience has left me willing, and indeed eager, to help others when I have the opportunity. And a final point -- I refuse to accept that jasoninsd is a real person until he takes me to smash open Teepee agates with a sledge hammer. You'd better be careful, Jason. With stories like the one shared by stewdogg, you may be getting a lot more visitors.

Jonathan, this is one the things I really like about you...you have the ability to express your thoughts and views with such eloquence! I'll resort to more layman style! LOL I completely agree with your assessment of the generous culture here on RTH...it's the "norm" rather than the exception. And I like the fact you recognized what constitutes the greatest of all generosities - time! I've said for a very long time, the only thing I can't get back in this life is time. Anything else can be reacquired in some way...but not time. I'm about as real as they get...and what you see is what you get...which isn't a whole lot! LOL - You know the offer to come over here and go to Teepee Canyon is open and waiting!

I agree with your assessment of RTH holajonathan and jasoninsd. I feel like RTH is a magnet for people who like rocks and a filter for those with evil insides and crappy attitudes. I was really surprised to find out how generous and kind RTH was from the stories Jason was telling me he was having behind the scenes with other members. I thought I knew how the forum really was, but after his stories I was convinced this place was even kinder than I thought it was on the surface. So, while Jason is definitely an awesome human that doesn't let the rest of you off the hook... More pictures and thank you's coming soon.

RTH is an amazing group. Seriously. I always end up laughing at some point when I read the forums (Remember the hot/cold water story from jasoninsd? or mohs and his extension cord debacle?).... and people are VERY generous with knowledge and time. Knowledge given freely without judgement is SUCH an amazing gift.
