Alimajo Agates

It's hard to go wrong with banded nodular agates, and these are no exception. I have never heard of Alimajo agates. Do you mind me asking where you got them?

This was the only place I could find them available, but the don't look like the cute little guys that saxplayer has here.

As nice as they are, at $15 a pound I won't be filling a tumbler with them!!

Have you bought other rough from HP?  I've been tempted to buy some of their rough, but I was looking for some evidence that the prices are justified in terms of quality.  I don't mind paying a lot per pound for really good rough, but given some of their prices, it had better be reeeaaaly good rough.

I paid less due to bulk order of 20lb but it was prob a $120-140 order if I recall. They def bumped prices, but it was still not cheap.

No nothing else yet. Probably won’t. I experimented and liked what I got, the more expensive Mexican agates might be awesome but I can buy elsewhere and pick stones for that price

That is what puzzled me.  Any nodular agates that are worth $100 a pound ought to have been high-graded with a keen eye.  So if they really are worth $100 a pound (which they may be), they'd sell a lot more if they listed them individually with photos.   It's hard to imagine a barrel full of $100 a pound rough straight from the mine being sold random pull...

Hey all, it's been awhile.  I have some decent stones completed but haven't got to photographing them yet. 

Here are some finished Alimajo agates which are tiny nodules I cut in half on a saw, then tumbled until the husk was mostly gone.  I have a lot left over I think I'll just slice and throw in the lot-o next time to see the natural husk etc.

These are really fun stones but very tiny after tumbling.

What thickness what your saw blade? I bought some of this material and yes they are very small ...

I have a 10” lapidary blade, let me look it up. It’s not intentionally thin though, prob a standard size.
