How did you like cabbing the cheetah? Different pieces (colors / patterns) are more or less even in hardness. The type shown here is a little tricky (uneven hardness) as I recall, but it has the nicest orange / peach tones. I have made 4 or 5 cabs with the cheetah. None were too slow to dome, and all took a fantastic shine. I really enjoy cabbing the stuff. The only truly problematic pieces are those with blue apatite crystals, which are at least 2 or 3 points lower on the mohs scale than the rest of the rock. Loved it. It did take me a while to dome, but that would be due to the state of my wheels. It shined beautifully, and hardness is very uniform. This stuff gets two thumbs up. Looking forward to working a few more pieces.

Rockoonz: very clever on the symmetry, and awesome choice of material, both in terms of what it is (I love BB), and appropriateness of the name for the day.

RockoonzI got about a third of the way through your post and thought... that's nice, but it's not symmetrical. You tricked me!

Happy Halloween everyone! I finally finished my cab with a few witching hours to spare 🎃 I believe this is Brazilian & I'm calling it The Eye of the Beast 🤘 I got it within 1/3mm for the 4:3. I measured the thickness just for fun, hence the name. I did the best I can to get a clear front shot but y'all know how that darn polish makes it a difficult situation. What you really can't see (sunshine probably would've helped) is the mossy area is actually sparkly as well. Good luck everyone! And I almost forgot my Halloween story... My favorite Halloween would have to be last year. Spending my first Halloween with Ali and she mentioned the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Well I've never seen it. She was appalled by the idea that I hadn't seen it and promptly remedied the situation... Anyone wanna do the Time Warp again? 🤣

Well, a perfect storm of events happened this weekend. I started cleaning up a genie to take up north (so I can start cabbin’ at the cabin), I finished cutting some material that I think looks Halloweenish, and the notion crossed my mind.. Good Lord I haven’t cut a cab in over 5 years! So here I am throwing my rusty offering into this tasty bag of treats here. The slab I chose The preform The cab in full sun Side view My micrometer’s out for calibration so this will have to suffice for measurements Halloween memory.. taking the kids trick ‘r treating when they were little. After we’d get home, it was my job to inspect ALL the candy to make sure it was safe! In other words.. first dibs! Happy Halloween everyone!

beefjello Brian, beautiful cab my friend! It's great to see you got a cab cut after so long! Is that from the slabs you just posted earlier?

stephan - Great looking cab! Loved the Halloween story! It always feels great to be smarter than "the man"! LOL - And yes...I think our calculator costumes might have been a tad small compared to the calculators back then! LOL - It had to have been 1977-78 time frame... Rockoonz - That material is fantastic and the polish you got is great! Way to think outside the box when it came to the symmetry! - Loved the Halloween story! I look back on some of the things I was a "co-conspirator" in back in the day, and wonder how many people are still in therapy to this day! LOL - I think you get some bonus points for choosing a name appropriate material! LOL NDK - Holy Crap Nate! You did it! You made it all the way through the challenge keeping the cab intact! You get some extra points for that...but then lose some points for choosing such a sappy Halloween memory! (Totally teasing...it's actually a good memory! ) - Of course you get massive extra point because of the height dimension! (Spooky!) - And fantastic capture on the pattern and then the shape of the cab to create the "eye"! Way to go! holajonathan - Yeah...I'm totally hiding my head on that one! LOL - D'oh! beefjello - Way to jump back on the cabbin' wagon! - Great looking cab...so it doesn't look like you had to knock off too much dust off the "how to" memories! Loved the Halloween memory! It's best to tell them they need to go clean up and take a shower while you "inspect" the loot...that way they never know what items are removed as "questionable"! LOL

Happy Halloween everyone! I finally finished my cab with a few witching hours to spare 🎃 I believe this is Brazilian & I'm calling it The Eye of the Beast 🤘 Spooky! It's the Anti-Cab! At work, a few years ago, an employee was issued notebook #666 on Friday the 13th. That thing probably should have had its own fire-proof cabinet. NDK -- I'm guessing you could not have done that if you tried. For Rocky Horror, did you see it with a live audience (with COVID, I'm guessing no). If not, you're still a virgin. beefjello Rusty? ... not sure what you're talking about. Looks like you still have the touch.

Good job everyone, this contest is officially closed. After a very long weekend of work that continues today I have a confirmed day off tomorrow so I'll get the contest voting poll up and running bright and early.

This rock was another option for the October cab challenge but the dimensions weren't right. There is something a little creepy about it -- like a small, desolate lake in the forest. It's some sort of Owyhee area picture jasper.

Tommy, on my entry #7, the image shown is the back and not the front. I did submit the front with a "Ghost Animal". If it's not too late for you to change it please do so. If it's too late, it's no big deal.
Thanks for your hard work.
