Hello fellow rockhounds, I'm 41 and have been collecting rocks and minerals since a teenager. Around age 20 a local rock shop owner who I befriended retired and I was lucky enough to buy a 10" trim saw, 18" slab saw, star Barranca grinder, rock tumblers, and much if his old stock inventory...Basically a lapidary studio all at once. But all those machines took up so much space and the maintenance costs got to be a bit much...
Fast forward to a couple years ago I was able to pick up a diamond pacific genie which does all the things that 4 or 5 older .achines were needed to do. This has really helped get .e back in the hobby.
Where I live in wisconsin we have what we call marathon county moonstone (some call it wisconsin moonstone). It is a very unique moonstone that shows flashes of blue similar to labradorite but as I understand it is an orthoclase feldspar where labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar. If I learn how to use the forum well enough I will try and post some pics of it for you all to see.
I am also a lover if all things agate and being in the Midwest come across a fair amount of lake superior agates.
I do have some questions about my genie and peoples preferences on brands of wheels, grit sizes, and particularly how to get the water to pump onto the end plate as I'm thinking of getting a set of magnetic laps for the right hand side. Also if anyone has used the trim saw attachment, what they think of it.
I will scour the forums before I post and see if some of these questions have been addressed. Anyway, glad to be here with my fellow rockhounding peeps!

Welcome to RTH from Virginia. We use cloudinary to post pics. It's a little tedious to set up but works a charm afterward. Instructions here.

Welcome from Amherst, WI. I currently have some WI Moonstone in a tumbler. Did you find it yourself .... if so ...would you mind saying where ? I bought a not very good piece at a Museum but sure would love to find some for myself. Am at 45/90 so am a "neighbor" to some fellow Wisconsinites.

She collected it with her parents in the 1980's. Before the area where it was became a major HWY 51/29 interchange in Wausau. I recently heard that someone who has a major deposit on his land is allowing small group digging. I do not know what he is charging. Was told anywhere from $10-$20 per pound. He takes groups out.

Nothing "special" but pretty when tumbled and it's fascinating seeing them and other landscaping and "fill" rocks turn out to be so pretty. Got some really nice lake beach rocks up by Ashland including one teeny agate and also some of that purple quarzite from Devil's Lake. Looking forward to the vibe final empty today.
