quartzillaThank you, sir. Some look interesting, others look unstable. But I bet there are at least 5 nice tumbles to be had, which is all that matter for purposes of the contest.

Cant wait to see what you get. I’m guessing every batch will have some clunkers and some good ones. I don’t really see any pitting on these which is a good thing. Some of these are too big for a 3lb barrel too lol.

Got mine today. Going to try not to jinx things by making any comments about how easy or hard or anything else it looks like. Haven't had courage to open the box yet. Need a cold beer first...

I got mine yesterday! Like quartzilla said, there are a few clunkers. Here they are: IMG_20220113_080759474 by Perkins17, on Flickr The biggest rock I got was super ugly ! I also got lots of basalt looking stuff. There are some good ones in the mix though. I feel better about what I find in the field now!

Yeah... I signed up for it. Now I am not so sure about my decision... I think my rocks will be here today though.
I was a little worried that it would be difficult to part with my 5 best rocks for the contest; looks like it won't be as difficult as I thought!

Perk your assortment looks almost identical to mine. Lots of almost solid black stones with some white patchy areas mixed in. Good luck on your entry my friend!

Sorry I didn't get back to you faster... I just finished pre grinding about 1/3 of them (Man I love rocks! It definitely is my zen time! 😂) The black ones look way better now. They've got nice banding and color difference. Good luck on your entry too my friend! I'm gonna get mine rolling asap! This is gonna be interesting. 😆

Finished pre grinding just now and fired them up in coarse today. That's where they'll stay for months. I didn't even make it through a month of 2022 before firing it up. Sigh. When will I have self control? 😂 Almost forgot, it's still super cold here so I hope it doesn't freeze...

Photo of the rocks I received. Some of them look pretty interesting. Looks like I got a piece of rhyolite conglomerate or something as well. (Click to see larger)

I got mine today. I will post photos later, but they are pretty awful looking rocks. They are basically low grade chert which is common all over the country... Ohio, Michigan, Texas, New Mexico, to name a few places. Calling this stuff "agate" is a crime. A few of mine are some sort of rhyolite garbage, and almost all the rest are either black with lots of holes, or ugly browns. I don't think there's a decent rock in the box. And no agate, that's for sure.

Group shot: Rhyolite? Ugly brown with pits and soft spots. This is driveway chert here in Michigan. Lots of pits in these, and two of the black pieces look like quartzite or some sort of metaphoric sandstone. It pains me to say that these are the "best" pieces in the box. I wouldn't bend over to pick up any of them out of my driveway. If you haven't already signed up, I would skip this year...

Mine look 100% just like yours. Very hard to be excited about this tumble. Chuck

It looks a lot like mine. Sorry to hear you got sandstone looking crud. Not really fair. I actually got like two rocks I consider genuine agates.

After three days of tumbling, many of the rocks came apart. Twice we cleaned out the tumbler as it had a 3/8" dirt layer on the back of the barrel. The black rock, not sure what they are, have a texture. I didn't want to be a bummer and say anything, but we went back to doing our own thing. About half the rocks by weight left here. Again, this is a National Geographic 3lbs(?)barrel.
