Howdy folks, Years ago, my pop used to take me on deer hunts to NE California. Him being a taxidermist, and me eating way too much venison, I'd lean my rifle against a tree and hunt rocks and artifacts. Never even shot at a deer in years of hunting. Found the Modoc box recently when cleaning my shop. Here is a pic of some of the material. Small point and oval knife are jasper, yellow crescent and big lance point one look to be pet wood, big knife is basalt, other stuff mostly water worn obsidian except for the super sharp notched reversable knife blade which looks brand new . Big arrowhead looking piece is flaked mainly on one side and looks to be ceremonial in nature. Modoc stuff by lonerider652000, on Flickr

Fine collection of western points here Sabre52. The Scottsbluff ? and crescent of wood are cool finds. Can't go wrong with the obsidian. The surface flaking on the knife top center is off the chart.

I started watching a movie late last night, "Alpha Dog". In the movie, one of the rights of passage for the young males was to be able to knap a spear point. If they passed, they were then thought to be a "man" and allowed to go on the hunt. Fail...and it's try again next time...but stay home with the women for now...
