That cab gave me the fits. I almost quit, but NDK encouraged me to finish. I just was struggling with the girdle. Not an excuse but I find my hands don't work too well anymore, especially when it's cold and I also have a really messed up elbow so working the angles is a struggle sometimes. I'm just getting to be a baby and need warm weather π I too need the warm weather sooner rather than later! Although I'm not complaining...you guys have had a far more miserable (referring to weather) winter than we have!

liveoak WA and canadian Jade is the worst for orange peel, personally I have found SiC sanding belts are better than diamond to prevent it, along with a light touch and patience. Linde A or chrome oxide on leather polish much better than cerium, let it get hot. That's about what I've found- better luck with my sanding belts then diamond. Still it's a struggle to get it right.
If it wasn't such nice looking stuff I think I would have given up on it by now.
Thanks for the tips & reminders. Patty

When this month's topic came out I doubted I'd have anything to submit. I have been on an earring kick lately and I just couldn't conceptulize square earrings. I had this piece of Sagebrush dendritic jasper that I want to cut. I looked long and hard at the slab but I just couldn't find any earrings in it. I kept coming back to a landscape orientation and hell why not do it rectangular! I am excited about its potential as a pendant.

Looks like a beautiful coral reef. I definitely see square earring to match, but hung from one corner. Of course- for earrings with the weight issue- they'd have to be small. It would be a beautiful set :-)

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who still uses and expandable drum! Sic belts do work pretty dang good with a little practice.

Always a struggle to figure out what mgiht work.

That's cool! Good job using what resources you have. I use the arbor in my profile picture for almost all of my cabbing. I bought it used for $25 dollars last year and got it running. It's probably from the 40's or 50's but it runs great and suits my needs.

Okay, my entry for this month is variegated blue tiger eye. I apologize for the poor picture of the slab, there were a ton of saw marks on it. (if you call it a slab, it was like an inch long by a half-inch wide!Β ) Anyways here it is, saw marks and all: IMG_20220307_162143663 by Perkins17, on Flickr Next is the girdle shot: Polish_20220311_195435158 by Perkins17, on Flickr And the moment you've all been waiting for... the cab!: Polish_20220311_194811953 by Perkins17, on Flickr Polish_20220311_195114860 by Perkins17, on Flickr (Tommy, please use the last picture for voting. Thank you.) Thank you all for looking! I really enjoy these cab contests.Β Edit: I forgot to add that this is a freeform.

I took quite a while on this one, I had it domed for like a week before I finally got around to finishing it on my newest-to-me machine an old diamond pacific pixie. You might remember me saying a while back that I was going to ask around the club for a spool polisher (if you don't, don't worry. I think I posted it in like December! Lol). Well one of the people at the club had an old pixie (probably 70's) with wood spools on the right and galaxies on the left. I really need to get some pics and post a thread on it but it's really nice and works well. It even came with a new set of spools!

That's really cool you were able to get ahold of a Pixie with that setup!

perkins17 that's a nice cab. Also interesting is the pixie with spools on it. I'm a tad envious as I've considered buying a set of 4" wheels to cut even tighter inside curves on cabs. Great score! Please post pics in the equipment section, I'm curious to see it π

OK, it is what it is. Eye sight not what it used to be. Stinking Water White Plume agate. I made a smaller one, but could not get any good photos of it.
