County maps obtained from google images. Lee County about 2 hours from home. First of all what direction do the creeks drain in the given county ? Note that the center of the county is the highest area since all creeks flow away from center to south-SW-SE. And the large creeks are labeled for clarity. Next step is to divide the county into 4 maps N-S-E-W showing the feeder creeks and small road locations and labels. Divided to make the search/sampling manageable. This map is the north east quadrant. The two large creeks(Halawakee and Wacoochee) are highlighted to differentiate them from all their feeders. Bridge crossings are observation/sampling points. Perhaps dammed lake to east is lowered at times to expose geology and artifacts ! This map shows a critical location, the south half had an ancient ocean on it, the north half is higher and mostly granitoid. The ocean left limestone, chert formations and fossils behind. So we have a smorgasbord of geology going from north to south. I will be looking for metaphorically compressed and heated sand of many colors(or quartzite) along with artifacts mostly made of the quartzite. Chert points likely occasional.

Talk about cats and dogs...speaking of mine are panicking since 3 am due to heavy lightning and woke me up. Hell's bells, bet next week's Tennessee River trip gets washed out again(loser me). That's cool, the smaller creeks in SW Alabama will have drained on and the pickins should be excellent. Some sandstone in that SW Alabama zone has been so compressed under heat that it has lost it's graininess completely. As if melting granular sugar into a clear hard candy. Not a single fracture, call it faceting grade and in many colors. Not common in SE US.

I'm about 45 minutes from Lee county. I'm in Harris county, butts up against the north side of Columbus, which is across the river from where you are going.
