A interesting piece of granite I stumbled upon in the Salt The chunk is about foot wide and 6 inches deep It that green band that had me wondering. It went all around the rock A strange anomaly how that forms in the crystallization process. This rock broke from some distant mountain and rolled interminably and ended up in the Salt River. Imagine there is some mountain, somewhere, where a lucky trained eye, could find this green banding . Kind of like the KT boundary anyway I thought it was unique enough to stash it for further inspection something to ponder,, mostly anyone else think its Not something to be taken for granite?

I'm with ya mohs , those straight lines get me. Seems like everything is chaotic in building and then something like that comes along and plays nice. I always assumed it was either sedimentary of some sort, maybe not sedimentary in the normal sense, but maybe X settling out Or maybe some microscopic culture growing along a seam. Seems like they always have their nose in something It certainly catches the eye

Yohs Chad ! Cool spud When you tumble it Be sure to do it in hot water Like our potato salad to 5.5 on the mohscale butte that another long story ‘ that was excellent suggestion that the green band may be algae/moss Maybe the rock sat in a water line And algae moss was eating away ? So I went out today to the stash to scratch the green band Best I can tell it solid all the way through that rock O that picture also includes a piece of micro fine jasper That I busted open and used to scrtch the band I think it pretty cool--- unfortunately not great lapidary color Maybe a chert or flint...

Although I did noticed it wasn’t rounded thought my green banded granite tumbled a long time in the Salt . Actually the granite came right from the Piedmont floor of the Salt. This is the first time I found this out crop Huge caps of greenish granitic boulders tops exposed from excavated bottom of the Salt River This raises all kinds if question. Butte who, knohs? May be I will find the green seam….

amygdule - Itty bitty carnelian! Good things come in small packages! Tumble the entire thing! Dule, did the large waves/high tides scramble things up a bit? Love the golden orb carnelians, and also the colorful pottery! Liked the blue agate, too. Need to get down to the beach and do some beach combing, no carnelians here that I have seen, though. Went to Coronado today, but didn't get closer than a half mile to the beach. (Bob doctor appointment.) It was foggy down there! Clean bill of health from surgeon that removed invasive melanoma a week ago yesterday. Pathology results came back clean, doctor says he does not need to see him again, and no need to see oncologist. Yay!
