After all is said and done, the point is to sell .
I'd totally agree , I'm not the crystally type, BUT if I could market to them in even a small way and sell more, could be worth the effort.
The last couple of issues of Rock & Gem had some " touchy feely" articles about lucky rocks, and other metaphysical interests.
The point is, it's just another market.
I do not make any note or ad mentioning metaphysical characteristics of the rocks I sell. People do buy them for that reason especially the Quartz. When asked about the properties of Quartz Crystals I respond with specific info about the Piezoelectric properties of Quartz and I suppose it is possible for some folks to feel that. For me these discussions are really about someone's Religious Beliefs and I have made it a habit not to talk Religion, or politics for that matter with anyone whom I am not a close personal friend. What a person chooses to believe as long as it does not involve injury to someone is not for me to criticize. If someone thinks that a particular rock I sell can do something special for them, that's fine pay me the money and I will be happy and say thank you. Heck, when someone hands me a $100 bill for a extra nice Quartz cluster, I get a warm tingly feeling, so maybe there is something to this!!

I get it and personally would have a hard time conversing with any knowledge about the toughy feely characteristics of rocks/minerals. To my way of thinking, it's just another market. But you're right if they start asking questions, I wouldn't know how to answer.
But you were right when you said you need to add a sign that says all the items are made by you & are authentically and correctly identified. You might also add in there, although saying you made it says the same thing, but people like to see " Made in the USA".

The first picture in this thread shows a picture board that we used to use, this was from the first show my son ever did. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/87476/art-craft-fair-success We came across it when getting stuff out for this show. He didn't want to use it as he felt it was babyish. I think we will have to do some kind of an updated version as it gets the point across.

Trying to be a wiseguy I googled "metaphysical properties of cash". There were a lot more results than I expected. I came across this article: tinyrituals.co/blogs/tiny-rituals/crystals-for-money-17-stones-to-create-true-prosperityI was a bit mystified as we have worked with everything mentioned and still have pieces in the house. I couldn't understand why we are not more prosperous until I made it to this part: How to program crystals for money? If you want to welcome more money and abundance into your world you can program your crystals for this exact purpose. Hold your gemstone in your receiving hand and visualize what it would feel like to receive all that you ever wanted. Hold this feeling and ask the stone to help you receive wealth and abundance. Thank the stone and carry it with you or wear it close.

My wife got into this heavily and I ended up with some cabbing material. Send out free copies of the Melody books and wait for the cash to roll in.

Send out free copies of the Melody books and wait for the cash to roll in. Too silly- I had to google " Melody Books" ( shows how little I know about it) and you're on the right track.

There was a nearby new age store that had crystals, books and all the other new age stuff. My wife was a frequent customer. She eventually started collecting on the internet. Just for quartz crystals there are many different types to collect.

Just for quartz crystals there are many different types to collect. I have several points that have 2 windows, and a double term point with a window 0n each end. There's also a lot of odd shaped ones that I have found over the years that are pretty cool.

Al, I like your setup and you could experience a very different result just by going to another show. Kudos to you guys for getting it done and it's awesome that AJ can have the experience. The father/son experience is the real prize. Wish more parents would do likewise with their kids.

I think AJ was going to have a good time no matter what as he brought a cooler and a bunch of snacks with him- soda, potato chips, jerky......I had to eat my Tums just watching him.

Hi Rockindad , first off, I’ve seen your posts (And appreciate your interest in helping others I.e. my uv-10 a few months ago) and love that you and AJ obviously enjoy the hobby and working with each other. FWIW, here are my observations. They’re meant to be helpful and if they come off differently it’s purely accidental. After all, it’s still early on the west coast! booth display: 1- serious geek appeal and drew me immediately. a. Signs look like Riker mounts (love those things) b. Super clean lines 2- Lots of material available without overwhelming the eye 3- there’s potential to add color, perhaps a colorful business card in the lids of boxes Boeing outward Information conveyance: 1-Rock ID and naming (Harry, Mary etc… just kidding) is excellent a. location info would be cool b. Age could be fun, but potentially controversial depending religious beliefs etc (really needed a “b” to go with the “a” in this outline). 2- More info about the rock, less info on magnet (on the vertical board) 3-love that you called out your achievement/award … MORE OF THIS 4-emphasize that y’all found, made, tumbled, cut (whatever applies) and this is your product! Pricing: 1- suggest putting price on back of piece or inside box so the piece draws the humans in (colored stickers on back of magnet) a. In the realm of the Psychology of sales if the human touches the object or holds it they are likely to buy and may engage them in conversation b. Perhaps having S, M, L string necklaces nearby for 1.00 would spur on a sale (though I agree “it’s not you it’s me” or rather the show that was the issue). 2- magnet prices under 4.00 seems low, but maybe I’m used to west coast prices… realrockhound or oregon might be able to lend their POV Random thoughts: 1- an iPad video of making a heart or slabbing would be cool 2- keep the paper signs (the 8 1/2 x 11) you have but make new ones and pull out the ones that suit the show b/c you never know. 3- metaphysical properties… I think you have to be in it to win it to tout them… I hope this is helpful… JR

Experience is never free. The show may of not been profitable cash wise, but your name and what you do is out there and people now know you. The more they see you the better it will get. Very nice display. Keep up the good work!!
