I kind of took a break from tumbling rocks due to the weather. Because of how messy it is I usually do it in the morning before my bath in a ratty duster robe that I don't mind if it gets stains and it's been too cold to get all wet outside. For those that didn't see/don't remember, last year on our annual family vacation on the very first day mom had to be rushed in for emergency pacemaker surgery so I never got to go rock hounding or fishing as we planned. However, I did walk from the motel into Virginia City, NV, (it wasn't far) to get dinner and on the way back to the motel I found a large piece of quartz alongside the road. I had to break it in two to get it into the rock tumbler and with all the stress of what was supposed to be a vacation my rock hammer had been misplaced, only recently found, so that's another reason I didn't get to this right away. Anyway, they're finished today. I know it's not perfect, it's discolored, there's a bit of polish still stuck in some of the cracks, and all that jazz, but I'm still pretty proud of how they turned out. After all, due to Covid I've had to learn how to do this with only the internet for help, local groups are still not having in person meetings. I left them in stage 2 for two weeks instead of my typical one because it just felt right to leave them in that stage longer.

Glad to see you were able to get back in some tumbling Jami! Got some other things going now that the weather is warming up. I used part of my tax refund to buy some various rough. I know it's not the same as digging it yourself but with everything like it's been it's just easier to get some off of Etsy. Got myself a couple of bags of rose quartz, plus a bag each of bloodstone, moon stone, onyx, and lapis. Just started some of the rose quartz and bloodstone today in the Lortone, started the moon stone last week in the Chicago Electric.

Looks a lot like some brown quartz that I dug out of the side of a hill in Yuma, AZ.

I'm more into cabbing and wrapping than I am into tumbling...and the vast majority of the material I work is NOT self-hounded. However, you're correct, there's something special about working material that a person found themselves.

Finding rocks is great, but using ones you bought is just as creative! Creativity comes in lots of forms! Most importantly, if you had fun, it's just as good as rockhounding!!
