I received my 8" expandable drum in the mail. Went out to get some measurements off the machine for a hood and tray I have to fab. I realized I don't have any way to connect this to the shaft. It's outside the area that the nut compresses against the other wheels. This section had a thumper with a set screw on the 1" shaft. Any one have any brilliant ideas for connecting this?

I can't quite imagine putting an 8" expandable drum on that shaft adapter. The coupler connects to the shaft but no way to hold the drum. I'm thinking about getting 2 shaft clamps and 2 1" washers. I think if I put a layer of rubber, like a cutout piece of innertube, on the washers and sandwich the drum in between, squeeze the shaft clamps towards each other with c-clamps and then tighten them to the shaft. Short of that the only thing I can think of is weld the washers to the shaft clamps then drill 4 holes and bolt through the washers and the drum. I was really hoping someone here had a better method.

take it somewhere to have a left handed thread put on the end, best option, gives you future options. or if you can (Assuming the end is 3/4..) :
Sections of 1" pvc cut to length to sandwich everything together.

I hadn't seen that thread thanks. That looks like my exact machine. The one in the thread just has a couple of guards and such that are missing on mine. I think I'll order the shaft collars and some washers. No modifications.

I might try threading myself. I think I'll start with shaft collars and see how that works. Thanks for the response and info.

Next I think I'll weld up a stand with some large casters.

I've re-mounted up a few arbors and I'll toss out a thought for you. I have found machines with a full tabletop under it have quite a collection of accumulated crap under the machine and on the tabletop, very hard to get at and clean up. The last couple I've mounted have set on a frame sized to fit the machine closely, but open so stuff can fall through to the floor, much easier to maintain. Large casters are great.

Thanks. I'm in no huge hurry but my plan is to get rid of the tabletop mount. It's got water draining on it now so it's not going to last long anyway.
