Great theme. Would copper fire brick count as soft material? I would love to see it. I'm totally Cool with Fordite, Bowlerite, Surfite, all of it. I defer to Tommy for a final answer there.

Tommy Rockoonz Was there ever a decision made if stabilization is allowed?

Are you going to tell everybody that they also need to sing the list of Mohs 5-6 materials with their entry? Just like the periodic table song? LOL Greig, are you speaking of the song by Tom Lehrer? The same person who wrote Poisoning Pidgeons in the Park? I probably wasn't the most normal kid growing up, thanks to my dad, I grew up listening to that type of music! You were lucky. Love Tom Lehrer! Our kids grew up with Tom Lehrer. : )

Tommy Rockoonz Was there ever a decision made if stabilization is allowed? Stabilization is fine as long as the contest theme parameters of "soft" are still achieved. I've worked with a fair amount of stabilized turquoise and it is still rather soft - just not chalky soft as it might have been originally.

Tommy Rockoonz Was there ever a decision made if stabilization is allowed? I think so, but at my age sometimes I think it and think I said it... Yes on stabilizing. It's standard on a lot of things like turquoise and related materials. Backing too.

Okay, here's my may entry. This is some Kingston copper conglomerate from Michigan. Here is the slab/preform: IMG_20220515_165037381 by Perkins17, on Flickr I actually took a chisel to this one because I couldn't make it to the club for the saw! Next is the front shot: Polish_20220516_194833843 by Perkins17, on Flickr It isn't lumpy, even though it looks like that is the picture for some reason. And, the girdle: Polish_20220516_195048951 by Perkins17, on Flickr As always, thanks for looking and many thanks to our awesome admin Tommy. -Nicholas

It kind of looks funny in the pictures but I like it in person. Yeah, I figured I'd finally put it out there... I should start going by "Perk" in person! -Nicholas

Brent StarguyBecause my dad listened to him, my siblings and I also listened to him. I agree, he is great! I figured he had surely passed by now and was only decomposing (ha ha). I was pleasantly surprised to find out he is actually still alive and living in Manhattan. He has retired, and is no longer performing. He turned 94 years old in April. I'm sure he has many fans worldwide.

Very Cool- it must be fragile to need a back like that. But I love the contrast that adds.

brotherbill - Fantastic looking cab Bill! I imagine the backing is to add stability or height as I'm also assuming you're planning on putting this in a setting.
