Just heard about this story that's in Desert USA. Mojave Trails National Monument This has been in the works since 2016. "At a whopping 1.6 million acres (2,500 sq mi), the Mojave Trails National Monument dwarfs the other two national monuments created by decree of President Obama on February 12, 2016. This vast area links Joshua Tree National Park with the Mojave National Preserve, creating a land bridge of safety for migrating wildlife such as the desert bighorn sheep. Wilderness areas abut much of the new monument, increasing its value as a wildlife corridor. Its designation as a national monument will also limit large energy developments within its confines." There are lots of long time rock collecting locations included in this 1.6 million acre area. Unsure at this time how it will affect rock collecting in the future. Don't have the time right now to read and summarize, will let you do that for yourselves.

They will shut it all down to any type of collecting. If there is one thing the government is good at, it’s using your money for things you can’t have access to.

Boy, Lavic Siding and most of the Cadys for sure. They steal rockhounding sites and in turn cover a lot of the desert with friggin solar farms and such owned by their buddies. Only folks I've ever seen out there are rockhounds and off roaders. Pretty inhospitable for those not prepared. Sure not a family camping spot. They just don't want anyone using it except a handful of research scientists.
